Default Depressed people use file sharing websites

A study of Missouri University of Science and Technology says that depressed students use more than non depressed ones file sharing websites and p2p sharing.
So we must be about 2 million depressed people here on TPX :)

Subsequent analysis revealed that several Internet usage features
like average packets per flow, peer-to-peer (octets, packets and
duration), chat octets, mail (packets and duration), ftp duration,
and remote file octets exhibit a statistically significant correlation
with depressive symptoms.
Wait, I can see the slogan 'Pirates are Depressed'

Thinking you have to buy to be happy is quite depressing

If the downloaders are depressed, what does that make the uploaders? Suicide bombers or Dr. Kevorkians?

It kinda makes sense. After all, if you're depressed about the high cost of stuff then naturally you're going to try and find a way to not pay for it. Ergo, file-sharing.

Though I'm sure they weren't thinking of their so-called "study" in that respect.

Peace to you and yours,

I don't get depressed about the high costs of buying.. I just don't give a sh*t and choose to dl. I still buy but let's see: Free or 50+ bucks. Free. Seems like the study should be:

People who use Filesharing sites are happy as hell vs those who are poor after buying a few movies or do without. Look, I buy quite a lot actually and in anime I always say if you can buy and support but f it.. if I can dl for free my conscience says do it and be happy. If you have the mindset you would rather do without or buy what you can vs potentially breaking the law then I understand and applaud you. I however decide to tell Best Buy and the mpaa to suck it.. for the most part lol. Star wars, avatar.. stuff like this I buy the big bluray or 3d sets.

So Mizzou can take their study and stick it.

True, but they cite another study on the matter claiming that:

It was also shown that when the Internet was utilized for activities like shopping, depressive symptoms among students increased

Let's cut it short: The Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale is available online so everybody can self-rate himself and see if it's true that downloaders are depressed. Obviously the test is useful and reliable but it DOES NOT substitute a psychiatrist or a psychologist.

everyone gets depressed one time or another in their lives. Shopping on the net or at the mall excessively can be a sign of depression. Doing anything excessive can be a sign of depression or maybe it's just that you really like doing it.

People please for the love of god don't depend on psych dr's or some damn depression scale to tell you what kind of person you are good or bad. Family, friends and your own freaking brain can do that just fine. I swear.. If someone is really depressed it isn't cause they are logging into TP, Rapidshare or any other site to dl or ul any kind of file.

If they are that bad then take the damn pc away from them and go on a road trip. Exercise or get your own butt out of the house. It's called being responsible for your own actions and disciplined and having a mind of your own.

Zung self-rating depression scale.. give me a break. Rate this..

Hahah indeed, and honestly this is just the result of the modern trend to make normal, healthy human emotions seem abnormal or "bad".
Real depression is quite rare, what most of people have is called "being bored"
or just a bit down/sad, or the most common "f*cking tired from working 10h a day on a pointless job", not depression.
And even if it is depression, that is in most cases nothing more than a symptom of a problem, not the problem itself.
Different food and lifestyle can many times solve it.

By different lifestyle it also includes giving the finger to all your family/friends who keep you deep in drama and leave them all to rot in their own crap, and find people who dont do that.
