Default Earliest music instruments found

Quote:
Researchers have identified what they say are the oldest-known musical instruments in the world.

The flutes, made from bird bone and mammoth ivory, come from a cave in southern Germany which contains early evidence for the occupation of Europe by modern humans.

Scientists used carbon dating to show that the flutes were between 42,000 and 43,000 years old.

Mick's ancient, but do you really think he's that old? Should we like have him carbon tested or something?

The first external musical instrument perhaps. Our voice boxes are obviously the oldest.

It doesn't mention if they found any amplifiers with them.
I wonder...

I always thought the earliest man made musical instruments would be a kind of percussion.

They would have been. But finding sticks and rocks together would not have been proof that they were meant as musical instruments. These are the earliest finds that could definitely be identified as having no other purpose except making sound.

As to whether it was music or not, I can't say. It was probably just talking with background sounds, like Rap, and that's definitely not music to me...

It seems more like a call that might be used during hunts.

i would agree, it does more resemble a call for some game. we see what we want though, so what they want to find is music, and thus they found music.

O.K. I will go back to gross...

I would have thought the first tunes would be from the "chorus" around a campfire bean fest. Of course it wouldn't be advisable in a cave...or under a shared hide.

I agree, science has a bad habit of finding just what they are looking for. Whether or not the find is\was what they were looking for.
