Default Hacker attacked ISP nd gov. website to unblock file sharing nd censorship in India

Hacker group Anonymous OpIndia attacked ISP (Internet Service Provider) Reliance Communications on Friday night and Saturday. Users of the service who tried to access popular websites like Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo and Gmail instead saw a message from the hackers announcing their protest against their "freedom being taken away".

Among other things, the message displayed to Reliance users said, "We tried to do a slow, non-violent protest and government decided to cover our mouths. We will not sit idle while our freedom is taken away. When we started to speak the truth, the government of India forced our online Twitter account @Opindia_revenge to be suspended."

Anonymous OpIndia has previously attacked portals of the government and private organizations to protest against all kinds of censorship. The attack on R-Com was triggered when Anonymous India's found its Twitter account had been blocked.

"The government is not involved in the blocking of websites. It was an order issued by the courts and the government has had no part in it."

Government hasn't got influence directly over the courts. The court makes its decision based around the laws passed by Parliament.

Though the act of blocking websites in order to tell people about website blocking does seem ironic beyond belief.

I know that, Omega. The Government passes a law that says 'all file sharing sites must be closed or non-reachable' then a judge says what the Government has said.

actually the government consists of 3 bodies
legislative - the law giving part, that creates a law and takes blank checks
judicative - witch uses the laws to judge, after taking a nice piece of the pie
executive - which enforces the decisions, and scrapes up every small bribe they can

So no matter where you attack, you always hit the right guys. Thatīs why revolutions are so awesome. You got 4 to 1 chance to actually hit where you want to XD

as far as I know, in a modern democracy, the government is part of the Executive power along with the prime minister, and the cabinet in india (in this case).
Therefore, governments don't judge, nor do they create any permanent laws. They do have authority to apply short term laws in some cases, that bypass the parliament's authority.
Anyway, the Executive power is part of the 3 bodies you stated, legislative, executive, and judicial. The seperation of powers principal is one that is necessary for a substantive democracy to exist.

The current rules in cyber laws are not strict in India and these laws are mainly concerning content harmful/disrespectful to the nation or national figures (read politicians)..

Reliance communications has been getting these orders just before release of any of their ventures (be it an Indian venture or its collaboration with Dreamworks) and now others have also started doing that.. These are John Doe orders which are not against any specific person but against anyone who might infringe upon copyrights.. These orders apply to all types of infringement be it cable/internet or websites which allow/facilitate downloading of the copyright material..

There are laws related to copyright infringement but are usually possible in aftermath of the infringement occurring.. An order like this is a very valid roundabout..

..and even though people might find it funny.. the government in India doesn't actually bother that much with all the internet, privacy issues, security or whiny things people elsewhere worry about.. they have got money to steal and feeding its malnourished population with some charity and leftovers from their bounty..
I for one strongly believe that Indian government is not out there to get its people (but run away from them:P)
