Stopped listening when he said that. All he was going to do was to make a point out of something he didn't know about and that's a no in my book.

Now I'm curious, I usually agree with some of the stuff he says, so why is he hated? What has he done?

Bill Maher fan here.
I have downloaded Religulous way before that movie came out here in Germany.
Have not seen the movie in theatres though when it came out because i could not find a venue showing it not dubbed in German.
I think it is one of the funniest movies ever made and i recommend it to anybody who asks for something funny to watch.
Also his show - Real Time - is not available legally in Germany as far as i know. So piratebay or tehparadox is helping me enjoying it.

He points out that every movie is pirated, and he didn't make it for the money. Also, Religulous is in the top 10 most financially successful documentaries of all time, so he did make money. It's more about the principal, but he admits he would have gladly made it for nothing if it lead to more people listing "none" for religious affiliation on their census forms.

I think it's great that he's putting a high priority on getting his message out and making a different rather than making cash.
