Default Idea for a New Amendment of the Constitution.

So I was thinking a lot about this SOPA and PIPA business lately, I thought, why don't we the people just demand a new amendment that states something along the lines of "We the People of the United States demand that any and all forms of legislation, regulation, no matter the circumstances, be announced to the entirety of the nation and must be passed by not only Congress, but by We the People as well."
Opinions and/or ideas on this?

I say implement this one:

It would go a long, long way towards fixing many problems with our democracy.

You are suggesting true democracy. But the U.S. is a constitutional republic, not an actual democracy. We elect people to legislate for us. It would be a huge mess and not very practical to have a nationwide election for every bill introduced. The people just need to wake up and stop electing the same scum over and over (the easily bought and bribed Rs and Ds), and put in Washington people who will actually and truly represent the people.

And my response to that is...

Quote:
The United States of America is not, in fact, a true democracy. In a democracy, the people are the government. Today, we elect people to run the government for us. The people we elect do not, for the most part, run the country in the interest of the people; they run it in the interest of themselves. We are led to believe that we must put our trust in these people. We, the People, do not have the power to create laws in our interest. This causes an imbalance of power in the government.

On top of that, the people don't directly elect the president but through the electoral college. The United States government is not governed by the people but merely "elected" by the people. The founding fathers never truly planned for a true democracy anyway. Your amendment looks nice on paper but would be very difficult to enforce.

We already have amendments that say these kind of legislation can not be in practice. So we should make an amendment that gives us rights to the rights of our previously established amendments.

Some of you really need to get in touch with reality. A 100 percent Democracy doesn't work, it never has. Greece, old Greece, toppled because of it. If "We The People" voted on every issue, nothing would get done. If you think nothing gets done now, the people voting on every issue would be ten times worse. Bottom line, you mad!

Right on, that was always the main problem about having a true democracy, that it would be a huge mess. And I do agree with the part of electing new people. I, for now, am leading towards Ron Paul for the presidential elections.

well said

proof....former USSR....Union of Soviet Socialist Republics,

republic equals fascist or communists or socialists
U.S is not and has never been democratic

republics are not democratic, no true government is democratic, people don't decide governments do hence no democracy...U.S just has the appearance of freedom and democracy. capitalism is greed...proof look at the interest on your credit cards

$4000 making minimum payments would take 22 years to pay back...so therefore capitalism is not freedom because your tied to your credit cards...people revolt, its time to stand up and be counted...lets have some more assassinations, civil war and revolution
