I heard on the radio today that 41% of Americans (no intention to kick you guys in the guts - again - I promise, Booky) still believe the rapture will eventuate in the next 50yrs.

I'm actually not surprised by that. Christianity runs deep in the US of course (man its so hard not to go there but I promised), but I find the timeline interesting - the next 50yrs.

This coincides with the predicted time when Climate Change will REALLY start to hurt us (eg major impacts on geo-political boundaries due to sea level rise; increased flooding/drought; changes in pest abundance and disease distrubition; reduced food supply for an over-populated world, etc), and also when oil may well be too expensive for many to use.

Hence, the US religious fanatics may be (by chance) onto something here.

One thing you gotta love about these guys... when the world finally comes to an end in flames and misery, they'll be sitting with the biggest smile on their faces going: "HA! I told you so!" Can you imagine the dude who actually got the date right? Jesus Christ! The human smugness knows no bounds.

Would you repent just so you could spend forever and ever with these happy campers?

It needn't be. All it takes is for the priest to say "Welcome to heaven"

The Singularity falls in that timeframe too, as well as flying cars and cold fusion. I've come to the conclusion that futurists can't tell the difference between "within 50 years" and "someday, eventually".

I am taking up a collection to buy Mr. Camping a calculator to help him with his math and stop all the confusion. With a net worth of 106 million---being a retired Civil Engineer---not too shabby---I don't know if he is that crazy or not! Anyway, please send your donations to TP and I will get him to forward them to my PayPal account!

I saw a nice headline on CNN today regarding Camping "Rapture to be Rescheduled". Geeze, he won't give up...
