Default PARAMOUNT SHUTS DOWN "NINJA TURTLES" PRODUCTION

Quote:
Michael Bay's "Ninja Turtles" reboot has had rough sailing since its announcement. Whether it was negative fan fallout over the initial announcement of the Turtles being from an alien race, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" creator Peter Laird addressing the updated origin or Kevin Eastman's endorsement, the film has certainly garnered a cornucopia of media attention. However, it looks like the heroes in a half shell will have remain on their home planet for the time being as The Hollywood Reporter reveals Paramount Pictures has shut down the reboot, pushing the December 2013 release date to May 2014. THR reports the studio has laid off pre-production staff for an "indefinite" work stoppage.

The news comes after a number of notable film delays for Paramount following the release of box-office dud "Battleship," including "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and Brad Pitt's "World War Z." "Ninja Turtles" is produced by Bay's Platinum Dunes with Jonathan Liebesman attached to direct a script written by Kevin Eastman and Andre Nemec.

"Kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles do exist, when we are done with this movie," said Bay at the revelation of the Turtles' new origin. "These Turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable."

Michael Bay touching the franchise would be a disaster ever since news broke out of the TMNT's being aliens. Come on.. aliens? Dafuq..

I don't think it's so much the issue of a story change as the fact that Paramount pretty much sucks anymore.

I mean come on, what were they thinking when they made Battleship? How the hell can you POSSIBLY make a movie based on one of the most boring board games of all time? No matter how much eye candy you throw at it, you simply can't make a compelling movie about a game where all you do is say "G-11" and then "You sank my battleship!".

The execs that decided to put money into that movie should all be fired. Though I can't help but feel sorry for Peter Berg. I loved him in Shocker. But still, wtf was he thinking too when he signed up for this movie?

That and the fact that Paramount decided to make a sequel of G.I. Joe. Polish a turd, it's still a turd. Just this time Bruce Willis will go down in flames along with the movie.

But honestly, I firmly believe the writers and studio went the alien route was simply to avoid having to pay Marvel for the whole "ooze" backstory. Anybody that read the original comic knew that the same ooze that made the turtles was the same ooze that blinded Matt Murdock and made him become Daredevil.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 and 2 are good movies even if they are dated.

Where the heck has I been? I didn't even know they were doing a remake. I guess I never knew they suddenly became aliens either. They just can't keep their hands of things that weren't broke. I remember seeing Ninja Turtles in the movie theater. Yes, dated, but still a great movie. Part two... eh...

I don't know, my hubby being a true fan would be willing to overlook a small change if the movie turns out to be good otherwise. I mean, it always sucks when they change things like that but really, we know the "truth" right?

They should change it to "Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles" too. Mutant is not alien. 'Ninja' and 'alien' ain't a good combination either, for me. And therefore their weapons...should be lightsabers or something, aliens' weapons. I hope they really reconsider this change. Next, superheroes are aliens (except Superman of course). Peter Parker wasn't bitten by a spider. He's an alien. Imagine that...

Not really, actually. They didn't CANCEL IT (note title doesn't say cancelled). They did, however, STOP (synonymous with shutdown) PRODUCTION pushing estimated release to 2014. If you can't comprehend the difference then the fault lies with you, not Tension.

I, for one, am tired of Michael Bay movies. When I was younger, I liked them but the formula hasn't ever changed and haven't seen a Michael Bay movie in a few years now.

I like some Bay movies, actually only Pearl Harbor comes to mind atm (despite not historically correct). But most of his flicks are action action action action. I mean, laying it on really thick and neglecting story.

no shit how could it be a dud. I don't get it.I guess it didn't make enough money. They need to time the the release when they have the spotlight and not against 4 other blockbusters. Oh well maybe it will come faster to bluray, what about Prometheus, is it a dud to? John Carter was good also, plus was visually stunning!

Actually there are thousands of writers out there with an infinite number of original ideas. The problem is that Hollywood big studios don't want to risk losing money with bold new ideas. They prefer to lose money "reinventing" the same old stuff over and over again.
