ah! good luck with traffic!

as an aside, i use to change my quote often, very often, but settled upon this in memory of something my father said in an old letter i found after his death. nothing more. nothing for, against, or even in thought of the author, but credit her with the words.

I notice the OP does not mention that some of the victims were teenage girls, or that the perp only got 6 years for "cyber-terrorism". Would not blackmail and stalking have been valid charges as well and perhaps added to his sentence? The way the victims were terrorized psychologically over a long period of time, makes me wonder if a quick physical attack would be less damaging.

Quote from one of his victims:
“He haunts me every time I use the computer"

I almost feel his light sentence was due to a misplaced sympathy based on his paraplegia. The prosecutor said “Society has to understand that if you engage in this type of behavior, it’s no joke,” King said. “You are going to jail and going to jail for a long time.” I wish to know the definition of "a long time" when you take into consideration early parole. In California a prisoner can be paroled after serving 1/6th of their sentence. So 1 year is "a long time" now?

BD, in the case i know, many times the thought of it "only" being physical abuse" has been mentioned.

it seems, to the victim in the case i know, that while the effects of a physical assault are not to be slighted, they are at least swift and one would know that it was an attack. no gaslighting involved in the physical attack. no stealing of ones history and forming their future.

there are times when using the computer is rough still and there were walls erected that need to be torn down, imo, but the journey for this person has finally ceased to be away from the terror and become toward the healing; but it happened over time and i am sure that time for healing is an exponential feature in this... so given enough time and truly good and patient people in their life, the human psyche is resilient, and there is hope now.

i am actually angry about this event, incensed more i suppose, so for one time only i am not smiling,
Mandy

I couldn't agree more. This guy has shown to have a shockingly deplorable personality and uses the internet to terrorize his innocent victims.

@lvstealth and your sig: that's the funny thing about quotes; sometimes so much is read into the name attached to the quote that people intentionally attach a quote to another name in order to change the message of the quote. If you hadn't said it was Ayn Rand, no-one would have mentioned the quote in a negative context, as it is a genuine and insightful quote. As the saying goes, "Even a broken clock is right twice a day." Note that I am not actually saying that Ayn Rand is mad or broken, just that a lot of people believe so, and it colors their perceptions.

yes, so true. i am confident enough in myself to wear Ayn proudly! giggle. No one knows my motive but myself, to be judged for something so silly is ... well... Silly!

it is just the way some see things.
