Default Upfall

Anyone has read Jonathan F. Keiler's Upfall? It sounds interesting, a sort of Sci-Fi time-travel with WWII implications.

Quote:
“Upfall” is a military adventure that begins with an Israeli commando attack on an Iranian nuclear installation and then via usual misadventure places the same unit in eastern Poland in 1942. “Upfall” is a word coined to play on the concept of ascension. The alternate historical situation places the reluctant commandos in a moral and physical universe with little time for reflection and much demand for action. The sayeret liberates death trains and camps (Sobibor, Treblinka, Belzec) it also finds itself on the run across the eastern Polish marches from a rogue’s cast of historical German villains, fighting for their lives and those of thousands of others

I seem to remember a friend of mine telling me that this novel was jaded and full of pro-Israel/US propaganda rubbish.

Having read some of what the author has to say about other things I would be surprised if this were not the case but I'll wait for some more reviews before deciding if it is worth a read for me.

Thanks Shawn, I'll be sure to check it out.

As for what the book is about:
Quote:
Book Description
Publication Date: June 5, 2012

Through fate, misfortune and a secret device a team of elite Israeli commandos find themselves in Poland in 1942.Chased by a rogues gallery of authentic German SS men, the commandos raid death camps and engage Nazis, keeping one step away from their own destruction.
Seems alright to me. So far sounds like a James Bond thing, but from the perspective of a group of Israeli commando's in the Nazi era. Ahwell, we'll see how much bias this contains, if any note worthy. Though it's usually best to take fiction (especially sci-fi) with a pinch of salt.

Edit: doh, forgot you already posted the synopses Shawn.

Don't worry Liberta, it happens, nothing wrong with that :)

As for the novel, it seems an alternative history novel with technological and sci-fi features. I don't know the author, however for sure I am going to read the novel. Then if it's worth reading (IMO) I'll post a critical review - or at least I'll try

Default Upfall good book

Upfall is an entertaining book. Lots of action and interesting blending of actual history and hypotheticals. Accurate as far as the military aspects go, both modern and WWII. Starts slow but really picks up as you go along.
