Nope. I milk mine till it reached its final straw. I had a 8800 Gt for nearly 5 fuaaaarking years, and it stood its ground on most semi-demanding games @ 1440x900 resolution. And i plan on Milking my GTX 570 that i purchased last August, for the same time frame. |

Same here GTX 570, every game works in very high settings so far. When game comes out that can't be played in High settings with this card ill concider buying new one. Probably it's successor 670, or 680 if price drops enough.

I started with a 3DFX Voodoo 1 4MB (Diamond), then the sequence went Voodoo 2 12MB (Diamond), Voodoo 3 (16MB), TNT 2 (32MB) (the Voodoo cards were better), ti 4400 (Leadtek), 5700, 6600, 7600 GT, and my current card is a 9600GT. The old 3DFX days were the best in my opinion, it was a great time in 3d gaming history for those who were too young to be part of it or don't remember it. :) I had the Voodoo 3, then the ti4400 from Nvidia (damn that was an awesome card, handled Medal of Honor and then the first Call of Duty's noooo problemo). Tried the ATI 9800 PRO (with 256MB ram!) and quickly switched back to Nvidia cards. I've always found that ATI had problems with games, everything from black screens to artifacts onscreen.I think I've had 4 ATI cards...old skule versions only. Went to the Nvdia 6600, then 7950 GT (another awesome card) and now have settled on the GTX 460, which is a midrange card right now comparatively. For the thread author - Wait a generation or two, read the reviews and you'll be happy you did. If you upgrade every generation, you may find that you'll be updating other components in your rig simultaneously. I believe Battlefield Bad Company was one of the first games to utilize multi threaded processors as well as your GPU, so hopefully more games will rely more heavily on a combo of your processors/system ram and GPU.. |

My 4870 still gives me the best quality in almost every game @1920x1080. And with 20+ years in front a PC i can tell you right now is not necessary go for the latest GPU, you can save some money buying the higher end models of the previous generation. And more in this time when the gaming industry is seeking to deliver the best graphics with less "horse power"; a good side effect of the "tablet boom". As DinkyDel said, Tom's Hardware is a good place to get GPU info and his charts are great. |

i have a xfx radeon hd6700 series and it plays almost every game, they have dropped in price too, was thinking about buying another and cross firing them as a cheaper alternative to a new card.

My friend just replaced his GTX 570 (same card that i have) with a GTX 680. Now he is facing quite some issues with Max Payne 3 , getting to know which drivers work best, and all that shizz_bizz, and i am maxing it out with excellent fps. While i am just sitting back with my 570, saving my money, and just enjoying the nice and smooth sailing that this card has to offer me. I keep telling ppl, if it's not in dire need of changing, then Don't do a damn thing. When things start going downhill, then take action ! |

I also think buying a card from every generation is not necessary. I upgraded from a 7600 GT to two 8800 GTX in SLI, then form 8800 GTX to GTX 460 and now I went from the GTX 460 to a GTX 670. IMO it depends of the rest of your hardware. [We don't want the GPU to be the bottleneck, do we :)] |

Interesting post, made me think about the cards I had in the past. Riva TNT2 Geforce 2 MX FX 5700 ATi 9800XT 8800 GT ati 4870 amd 6950 I had a 4870 for 3 years. Only recently upgraded to a 6950 with unlocked shaders, whacked a 3rd party cooler and it runs everything perfectly. Only game to make it struggle so far is Max Payne 3 (with everything turned up). Not going to upgrade until DX12... |

I have the Radeon HD 5870 and can still run most games at least high settings. Only a few games I can't run at max settings like BF3 (well I can run it at max but the FPS is like 40 and I like to play no less than 50 to 55 FPS)
