Star The Elder Scrolls Online is Real

ZeniMax Online Studios is developing a massively multiplayer version of the popular single-player fantasy series.

Long rumored and much anticipated, The Elder Scrolls Online is finally being unveiled in the June issue of Game Informer. In this month's cover story we journey across the entire land of Tamriel, from Elsweyr to Skyrim and everywhere in between.

Developed by the team at Zenimax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online merges the unmatched exploration of rich worlds that the franchise is known for with the scale and social aspects of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players will discover an entirely new chapter of Elder Scrolls history in this ambitious world, set a millennium before the events of Skyrim as the daedric prince Molag Bal tries to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director and MMO veteran Matt Firor, whose previous work includes Mythic's well-received Dark Age of Camelot. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

An in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons awaits in our enormous June cover story – as well as a peek at the player-driven PvP conflict that pits the three player factions against each other in open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne itself.

Star First Details & Leaked Screenshots Appear

While these screens are far from “direct feed” they do the job showing us what to expect visually from TESO.

Tamriel features three alliances which users can join, each consisting of three races to chose from. “The Nords, Dunmer (Dark Eves) and Argonians make up the Ebonheart Pact. Forming the Aldmeri Dominion are the Altmer (High Elves), Bosmer (Wood Elves) and Khajiit. Finally the Daggerfall Covenant consisting of Breatons, Redguard and Orcs make up the third available alliance”, writes xbigygames.

Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios “checks in every once in a while” to work together with the development team’s loremasters. Random events are said to play a major as well.

Also, be sure to click on the last picture showing GI’s “what’s in, what’s out” list which gives a ton of info.

I'll be keeping my eye on this, but after GW2 I'm not sure I can settle for old school anymore :/

IDK about this. Like Klown07 says, Its something to keep an eye out for, but not really excited.

Skyrim was fun for a little while, but then it just got boring. It was a rinse and repeat process 80% of the time.

There wasn't really any doubt about that I guess. Everyone wants a slice of the MMO market. Haven't checked out any details released yet but I hope there's First Person view and that the lore is good enough and plenty. As long as they give me the RPG elements of Oblivion and Skyrim (which are the only 2 of the franchise that I have played) along with the obvious teaming up with fellow Arrow-takers to the knee I would love to pay for it.

If they can keep the same mechanic as the other ES game, except expand to mmo scale, then there's nothing old school about it. Except for maybe Ultima Online, but that's so old that its irrelevant.

Just seen a screenshot of it and my heart sank. In it's current form, it looks nothing like a Elder Scrolls game, just another MMO.

I'm not talking bad about this game to be clear. I can tell you one aspect of making this game in to an MMO that sounds really cool is well.....playing it along side many others who love this series. But yeah, I am really hooked on what GW2 is doing at the moment.

NCsoft won't let me test play GW2, so I can't say much, and don't really care. I'm hook on Tera though because I played the beta and liked it.

That's great, you found a game you liked :) That's all that matters! Tera was not for me, now all that's left is for me to give the secret world a shot lol

I was excited, until I saw what they're doing. A third person, tab-target MMO is not an Elder Scrolls game.

What makes TES games good is the gameplay, combat and exploration. You can't take all of that away and expect to keep your fans around.

There was a thread a month ago about speculation of a possible Elder Scrolls Online MMO. This thread contains official announcement, trailer, first details & leaked screenshots.

BTW added new pictures and INFO :)
