It's not like guild wars 1, you can see all the other players when you are out in the world. No more heroes, because they are not needed. You don't even need to party really, but of course you can to be a bit more organized. Everyone can attack the same mob and get the loot and xp. Even if you're not in a party. The world in GW2 is much, much more livelier and colorful than GW1 too. When you first play the game, it may be a bit off putting, because it is very different from a lot of what is out there already. All professions can use different weapons, and each weapons come with their own set of skills. You start off with only one skill for the weapon you are using, as you attack and kill mobs, you unlock new skills. Warrior in GW2 or a Caster, will play much more different than one in another game. It takes some getting used to. If you start off with a short range melee weapon as a CASTER, it might suck to you, but as you keep playing you'll pick up a new weapon, and that weapon will have a complete different set of skills. So when you unlock all the skills for that staff or scepter then you'll be like, alright this profession doesn't suck like i thought it did. Quote: 1. You can easily play Guild Wars 2 without ever having touched GW 1. It takes place 250 years later and they are COMPLETELY different games. Anet has included Easter eggs and cool things for people who have played Guild Wars 1 but that doesn't make it harder for a person new to the world to play. 2. The world of Tyria is HUGE. The cities are larger than any I've ever seen in an MMO but they're not just big..they feel alive. And they have tons of hidden stuff in them. Guild Wars 2 is a game that rewards exploration and there are tons of places to explore and lose yourself in. You will be able to find stuff most people will never see. Yes, I felt very small playing this game...not right away, but as I got wind of the scale, more and more. 3. Guild Wars 2 is pretty much antigrind. The closest thing to grind is how you unlock your weapon skills. It takes about 20 minutes of fighting to completely unlock a two handed weapon's five skills. But it gives you the skills this way so you learn them as you go. It didn't feel grindy to me. As for leveling, there's a linear progression to the leveling curve, so it takes about the same time to get from level 20-21 as it does to get from 79-80, or roughly an hour an a half per level. But this game isn't really about leveling. It's about experiencing the world. It's interesting enough to ignore leveling altogether. 4. There's no TRADITIONAL end game in Guild Wars 2, which doesn't mean there's no end game. I mean in most games, the end game is banging your head against the same raid over and over to get the one piece of gear your missing, because without it you can't bang your head against the next raid when that comes out. Ummm, how is the end game? Instead in Guild Wars 2, you have World vs. World which is a mass battle, siege based PVP between servers, fought over two weeks at a time, there's dungeons with insanely difficult explorable modes with different paths and objectives through all of them, there are open world bosses, and elite events and like all MMOs Anet will continue to add content and come out with expansions. Plus, in most MMOs the entire world once you get to cap is wasted...the way level scaling works in GW 2, you can revisit old zones and STILL have fun. And you'll want to because there WILL be things you've missed...I can guarantee that. 5. Nothing PARTICULARLY irritates me about the game, because I've sat through seven years of WoW clones. This game has come closer to what I need in a game than any other out there. Some of the voice acting can feel a bit canned (not all of it though), some of the personal story quests might seem a bit silly (but not all) and some people say melee is a lot harder than ranged, and needs a tweak, but mostly, aside from the beta bugs you'd expect in a game not yet optimized, this is pretty much the game I've been looking for. But then I'm an explorer and an immersion player. Fortunately seems like I'm not alone. Last edited by klown07; 05-05-12 at 10:17 AM. |
