Also judging by your current status i say stick with a PORTABLE console.

If i were you i would stick to portable gaming consoles eg PSP, Nintendo DS, GBA. More along the lines of PSP because there are movies here that support the console.

I think that the wii and pc gaming are a good combonation. You can use the PC for more hard core gaming, and light gaming on the wii, like party games, and the nintendo exclusives. of course in my case, my computer isnt good enought to keep up with these new games... lol

I'm more a fan of consoles than PC's... PCs can be so damned hard to understand most of the time and it can be extremely frustrating to get some games to play. Also upgrading the PC costs a #$^@ load.

this is what i would do go grab a 360 game controller get the drivers for it choose the system get emulator play any console game on your pc for free except for the 360 and playstation 3 those have no emulators as of now.
my system can now play
pc games
atari
nintendo
snes
nintendo 64
sega
dreamcast
neogeo
xbox
playstation
game cube
old school arcade games

just about everything under the sun
So when you go to best buy and bend over remember what i said.

thing is you DONT have to get the new games that come out =P.

there are still TONS of awesome games that dont require all that much computer power.
civilization 4, battlefield 2, counter strike source, dungeon siege 2, sims 2, etc.

I own a PC as well as a Wii and DS. I must say for first person shooters, the PC wins hands down. I just wish that PC's were as inexpensive as a console. $300 for a console system and you can play any game available for it. Not so with a PC. In order to play a new game, you may require a $300 dollar video card or a total system upgrade costing $1200 or more depending on how much you want to spend. Saw some new hi-end PC's in the new Games for Windows magazine, costing between $5,000 and $12,000!! Who can afford a system like that for gaming??

$5000-$12000 ? Come on .. with $2000 u can get a kick ass computer which can handle anything , i mean anything

let me list out my system, i build it last 2 month

ASUS P5KC support lastest CPU 45nm , support both DDR2 and DDR3, 7.1 HD audio built in
Quad core Q6600 2.4 ghz can be overclocked to 3.2Ghz
2TB (4x 500GB WD)
PSU (master cooler 650W)
Crossfire 2x Radeon HD3870 (total 1024MB DDR4, HDDVD blue-ray playback supported, lastest Directx ..)
4GB RAM ( 2x 2GB DDR2)
2x LG 20x Lightscrible Dual layer DVD burner

Well, its not very very high end but still kicking ass and be able to handle anything ...
