Default Square Enix: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced

Quote:
Square Enix revealed the rumored remake of Final Fantasy 7 today. They're optimizing the 1997 RPG for modern PCs and also adding a few new features.

To run the remake, you'll need a system with Windows XP, Vista, or 7. Other minimum requirements include a 2GHz processor, 1GB Ram, and DirectX 9-compatible graphics card. Those requirements are obviously a lot higher than they were for the original PC version (you needed a Pentium 133 to run it at the time) so expect some sort of visual upgrade. If the trailer below is any indication, though, it's not going to be a huge leap in quality.

The rumors of a Character Booster turned out to be true. At any point in the game, you can press a button to max out your hit points, magic points, or Gil (money). This will let you easily bypass difficult sections of the game, for better or worse. Was anyone really clamoring for this feature?

The remake also has a couple standard fix'ins you'd expect from a present-day PC game. There are 36 achievements to unlock throughout the game. Cloud save support allows you to continue your adventures from different computers.

Square Enix says that the updated FF7 will only be available through their digital shop. I was unaware that the Square Enix Store actually existed. Releasing an exclusive, desired product through your store seems like a smart way to raise its visibility, though.

Seems like an incredible waste of time on Square's part, all they're going to do is outrage those who want a true FF7 remake rather than this stupid "faux-remake"

Also, I like how the trailer says "Experience like NEVER BEFORE"... Yeah because there's SO MANY DRAMATIC CHANGES! >_< From what I understand it's not quite as simple as "clicking a button" to increase you stats too, I've read it will likely be a pay-to-use feature... Yay, more money gouging.

Totally agree with all of you.

I will not even bother buying that crap if the graphics are still the same with enhances graphics (kinda like the enhance feature on PSX emu) I don't see the point.

Even with new features, I sure as hell won't buy it, I've waited long enough to see better mods out there.

I expect a total new remake with current technology.

Maybe I'm asking for too much lol.

SquareEnix is surely not gonna to redo the 3D meshes, perhaps better textures and that's about it. I'll pass this one.

Hrm... Should I Experience Aerith death once more... No.
Unless they add up another story like what's happen with all the characters, after all those adventures that happen in game and movies. Maybe, just maybe I play it again.

This doesn't sound like a remake. It read like they just take the old game, add a few bonus feature and release it as a remake.

FF3 remake is a remake. This is not, just as fftactics on GBA, Ipad and psp isn't.

Square has gone from a once great game developer to a pathetic shell of their former selves. Anything short of a complete remake of FF7 will be an epic fail and will further piss off the games fans. After making not one but three Final Fantasy(FFXIII, FFXIII-2 & FFXIV) games that are complete garbage they wanna make yet another bad decision with a half assed remake of FF7.

This is a money grab, pure and simple.

It's not even fan service.

The only true enhancement is some 3rd hand Info I heard that you can buy Gil with real money. Did SquareEnix have lunch with Blizzard or something?

Hope to high hell this isn't true.
