Alienware is owned by Dell now too. But yes i would say dont get one they are overpriced imo and its more for the HIGH-END stuff.
I think you topic has inspired me to create a thread which i will updated quarterly with a value PC built.

have a look at the antec 900. great cooling, and IMO good styling also. cable management could be a little better, but not as important as cooling.

the case you have picked out looks like it will keep thinks cool too.

i would get the seagate 32mb cache 1tb SATA drive if i were you.

there were some good suggestions on mobo's here. i wouldn't get one that has onboard video since you'll be gaming with it. i tend to recommend the abit IP35 Pro for a good solid mobo. that or a gigabyte - one of these two depending on the options that you need or don't need:

stick with a quad core, you'll be glad you did.

Actually if u dont mine it i think getting 2 500gb HDD will be cheaper too and u can separate some of your stuff so u dont lose everything if one drive stuffs up. Or get the new WD 640gb they are extremely good from wat i've heard.

It may be a little overpriced, but I'm sure you could find it cheaper elsewhere. I just came across it when looking for an alternative to the micro ATX board he had originally selected. I have one of the Ultra Durable motherboards from Gigabyte and it is very nice. In all my years of selling and installing their mainboards, I've only seen a couple die. Overall they make a quality product in my opinion.

Pretty much what everyone said is sound. You don't want a micro ATX mobo, and you definitely wouldn't want to combine it with a full tower case. Get a regular/medium sized case (fulls are huge) and a normal ATX mobo. Other than that, post the best prices you can find for what you decide to get. We'll tell you if you are getting a good deal.

wow, that's a lot of money to be spending on a dual core rig.

why the aftermarket cooler, are you going to be overclocking?

the mobo is overpriced, you could definitely save some $$ in that department.

the ram is overpriced also. there's nothing wrong with going with 4x1gb sticks. get one set of 2gb from this deal:
http://shop4.frys.com/product/5375608
and the other from this deal:
http://www.buy.com/prod/crucial-ballistix-2gb-2-x-1gb-pc2-6400-800mhz-240-pin-ddr2-memory/q/loc/101/202541818.html
---or---
you can get 4gb from this deal (2 rebates per household) :

do you know which processor i should get then, the main thing for me is being able to play pc games(dont care too much for the most current games) and my psx emulated and n64

i wont be overclocking but i figure cooling isnt expensive so id rather get the extra cooling just to be on the safe side

since this is my first time i know it may be a dumb question but do i need to buy all the wires inside the pc seperate or do they come with each component?

you shouldn't need any extra cables etc. the mobo will come with SATA cables, if you are buying OEM hard drives they won't come with cables.

i think quad core will be more future-proof as all games will eventually be multi-threaded to take advantage of them.

personally, i like to overclock to get the most out of my money. i have a q6600 2.4ghz running at 3.6ghz. but that's just me, you might want to get the highest stock speed quad that you can afford. or stick with a dual core and see how that works out. you can always upgrade later.
