I'm sure they all do. That way they can hand it over to the MAFIAA for a deal to let them off the hook when they get busted. And...... how would anyone really be sure that they don't keep log files? |

There's no way to know for sure, unless you are the host. Even if they claimed not to keep logs, that's no reason to trust them. Use a good VPN if you are a serious pirate.

1- Filehosts don't hand over their logs like a dropped-after-birth impulsive kid. (well, maybe in the US, but with the exception of that). An example; Hotfile kept resisting the MAFIAA in the court when the battle was about user logs. Rapidshare was in a somewhat similar situation aswell iirc. Why? If the news leaks out that the filehost in question released user logs without the demand of a court order (i.e. on its own will), than the reputation of the fiehost is permanently damaged. It destroys the consumer trust relation, and by that it will decimate their subscribers base. 2- I'm not sure what good a VPN will do to 'hide' your user activity for a filehost. Here's the problem: As free accounts are worth to nothing in the post MU era, people are bound to subscribe to a filehost to be able to actually make proper use of the filehost's service (whether it be downloading or uploading). In other words, if you've registered, and payed for a premium account, than hiding your traffic won't do you any good. If let's say Rapidshare would get a court order to hand over user logs, than the one who demanded the logs, can see all the history of the account you created for the filehost. And next to that, they can obviously can track you down, as you've payed for the account where you did naughty things on. In other words OP, don't worry about picking a filehost, just avoid any that has its business in the US. Edit: Or better yet, go find the big uploaders (like Cardman) on this forum, and see what they are using. It's a bit sheepish, but it works. Last edited by L1b3rta; 07-29-12 at 12:32 PM. |

Thanks for the advice, duly noted. :) This does though raise another question - how do you anonymously pay for an account on a Cyberlocker? The freebie downloads have their limitations (file size, speed of download) so paying for an account is a nice idea, but it also makes your trackable ....... best way to pay for a host anonymously would be to have a pre paid card or a visa gift card that works just like a credit card then find a good vpn or proxy but it will still be slow because of how much it has to bounce around befor it gets to you to be anonymous.
