Default DIY Tesla Gun

It's one of those "Oh my" moments for me. This is the kind of thing I'd dearly love to have, but not sure if I'm grown up enough to use it >ahem< wisely. Heh, heh, heh.

Rob's Tesla gun is powered by an 18 volt drill battery and uses a spark gap Tesla coil. The body of the gun itself is a Nerf gun, cast in aluminium. The housing for the primary coil and high voltage switch is made out of porcelain, and was 3D printed--it's a pretty custom switch after all. All the power supply is housed in silicone.

Saw the picture of an apparent demo test fire. No sure if this is legit; but the damn thing looks dangerous to to anyone or any electronics nearby including the operator. You'd certainly want to be wearing PPE (personal protection equipment) of sorts.

The fact that he kind of looks like Dr. Insano says a lot.

As I have mentioned before, Tesla is one of my few heroes. His suit against Marconi for copyright infringement was won, but too late to do any good. His defeat of Edison is evident in that we use AC (alternating current) not DC (direct current).

I would love to have a gun like this. Just like to see the sparks fly!

I'm still working on the claims Tesla developed free energy, powering an electric motored car with crystals and a handful of goods picked up in a department store.

The most brilliant man on earth I say, even more so than Einstein (I hear they were actually friends)

I also have read about his "electric car". It seems it definitely had to be within a certain radius of the "tower\power transmission site". It also needed an impressive water cooling system. He did prove that he could power a town with wireless energy(documented.) To read the history and browse through the patents he filed is fascinating, to say the least.

That is where you will find what Marconi stole and Edison tried so hard to suppress. Unlike Edison, Tesla invented all of his patents. Edison had inventors that worked for him, while taking the credit for any resultant patents.

I first heard about Tesla in 72 (I was 12), that's what drove me to study electronics and electrical, a fascination for what has gone before and disappeared.

You can find all kinds of good stuff on this subject at overunity.com. I used to read articles there all the time. That got me into building a hydrogen on demand system. I got one to work but, I am too afraid to actually try it in my car.

You don't literally mean free energy, right? You're just speaking colloquially? You're talking in terms of something like fusion, yes? Though even that is eventually and inevitably exhausted and not unlimited. Entropy takes care of the notion of free and unlimited.

Actually his claims of "free" energy meant just that "FREE". His Niagra electric plant was not an example of free energy. What he seems to be talking about was tapping into the ionosphere to acquire and transmit energy. He also was fond of using the ground = earth for power transmission.

For a good time that involve Tesla, read Spider Robinson's Callahan's Crosstime Saloon series. If the puns don't get ya, follow the directions for "God's Blessing", one of the best drinks ever created!!

@Gandolph13, I was introduced to Mr. Tesla as a sophomore in high school by a science teacher. It was a few years before 1972 though(ok, it was 1969).
