ok so i get all my dvd-rs from here. i always burn them with imageburn at 4X Speed. I have 2 Lite-on Burners. One of them i installed about 1 year after the other one. for the last couple months i notice that about 90% of my dvd's are stucking and certain parts of the movie. ususally about and hour into the movie. i have to fast forward past that stuck point. it plays ok for about 10-20 seconds and then stuck again. i keep repeating this step throughout the flick and the same things happen. sometimes it just stucks and wont fast forward.
i tried both burners and the same thing happens. i tried 2 different discs and the same thing happens. i dont get any buffer underruns when im burning with imageburn or anything like that. I need help solving this problem. Please post suggestions.

If it's sticking when playing back on both Lite-On's then it's bad DVD disks. Change the brand. If it's only sticking on your home DVD player then the player may be going bad. Your anti-virus program may also be interfering with the burn process. Turn it off before burning another disk and see if that helps. Last edited by wtfjack; 07-20-12 at 03:27 PM. Try playing it on another player. If it doesn't happen, it's not the burn but maybe your codecs. I really don't know. Too much of a coincidence that both drives can not play at a certain point. Also try updating your mb drivers and look for a firmware update for your opticals. As stated above it may be the recording media. |

I used to repair electronics years ago.I have seen this happen on home DVD players and car radios. The laser rides on a sled on top of 2 highly polished metal rods, some times it gets gunked up and needs to cleaned and re-greased, and other times the servo motor that drives the laser needs to be replaced. Either way you have to see what causes the laser from advancing. The simplest solution, buy a $25 DVD player.. |

I agree with solano, after cleaning the rails, re-grease by applying a very thin layer of white lithium grease via a toothpick. Also try cleaning the laser lens with some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. I speak from personal experience and can tell you that it works pretty well.

download Daemon tools lite and mount the iso you downloaded, if you can watch the movie then the iso is OK and the problems depends on poor burning or poor optical units. In the first case you can try to burn with cdburnerxp at the lowest speed possible, in the second I am afraid you have to change your units. Control also the buffering size in imgburn, if it's too small it can give such problems. Last, use only first class DVD like Verbatim, bulk DVD are unreliable. |

Ive noticed that many optical drives age pretty quickly, some a bit slower, some faster than others, Dont know how, dont know why but thank god they are all pretty cheap and easy to replace them. That aint true for them expensive Plextors but since these babies usually outlive their technology, there's no need in buying them in the first place. My 2c |
