Default "In-flight phone calls to become standard" OH SH*T please tell me it ain't so!

I can't believe that loud obnoxious discourteous morons will soon be allowed to make in-flight phone calls. Some people are bad enough on the ground, shouting into their mobiles while gesturing wildly, now we will be their captured audience. I do believe reasonably priced Internet access should be available to all, especially on those interminably long boring overseas flights, but for heaven's sake in-flight phone calls are just wrong. As a pilot I never thought that phones and cameras ever really interfered with aircraft systems and thought they used that as an excuse to not allow phone calls during flights. Now there is apparently a change of heart, and we all will be suffering the consequences of this BS change in flight regulations. This quote from the article is bewildering:
Quote:
"You can't legislate manners from a regulatory standpoint," she said. "Sooner or later, the arguments against mobile connectivity are going to fall away."
Yeah, right. How many of us will have to suffer before in-flight calls are once again outlawed as a necessity. Here's a link to the article:

EDIT: Don't know why the link refuses to display properly. I've tried several times already but asterisks continue to show up. Simply go to cnn.com and search for the article titled, "In-flight phone calls to become standard, say experts".

I predict this will most negatively impact business class.

Also, this link seems to work:

Were you using an international version of the CNN site that happens to look like a censored word?

The link is the same as yours except it began with: ...//edition dot cnn dot com/2012... not www dot cnn dot com. Can't figure out why "edition dot cnn dot com... is verboten. Anyway thanks for posting the link!

Cheers &

Fine by me. It only affects those that fly. Personally I like to keep myself firmly affixed to Terra Firma. The more Firma, the less Terra.

In-flight phone service has been around for about 20 years, it just costs you a lot, and I am not talking about using your own cellphone.
Back in 1990s it was about $6/min over the land and $11/min over the ocean.
I even remember one young guy using it for 25 minutes in a half an hour regional flight for 200 miles, like he couldn't wait for 30 min; he had a cellphone back then.

Yes, but that was very limited and expensive service. Soon everyone (willing to pay the surcharge) will be able to use their own cell phones on flights, which will lead to disastrous consequences for the rest of us.

And big G.... HELL yeah, throw the miscreant off the plane at 40,000 ft just like you would from a train!!!
