Default Google Starts Punishing “Pirate” Sites In Search Results

Quote:
Google announced today that it will lower the search engine rankings of websites that receive a high number of DMCA takedown requests, independent of whether the linked content is lawful or not. The algorithm change is the result of extensive lobbying efforts by Hollywood and the major music labels, and could severely degrade the rankings of websites such as The Pirate Bay, FilesTube, and even YouTube.

Well that sucks!
But just like anything else, it can be circumvented.
Just enter title and web site name.
Done!

Going to be severely abused even more by trolls now. After this announcement, their DMCA process is going to get hammered even more, legit or otherwise.

Aside from Google shooting themselves in the foot on the market share front much to others benefit the whole tactic could backfire on Hollywood. It won't take long for some pissed off hackers to turn this against the Hollywood media morons.

Google bought youtube for 1.65 Billion. And you dont have to look far to see (c) stuff there. This is a biased control freak move by google.

If i was a owner of such a sensor crap and if i also owned one of the best advertisement earning business...i would have the sense to EXCLUDE my own thing from this sensor bullsh*t

If i can think of something like this..i am sure Google has also thought of excluding youtube from this. And I don't think they would announce about this exception and ruin the lobbying basturds' plans and get more criticism from others

Hmmm, this could mean that people wont be seeing a lot of other stuff like maybe Blink, or Veoh, or other places that host videos because Google wont take those places out. Shame no?

So maybe we should play dirty politics and do some heavy reporting on youtube and see if those bastards actually listen or just shovel us under the rug. This will get dirty and nasty real fast. Its on the right track. God I hate large corporations. Especially when they start playing politics and think they are our savior.

Nope, won't include YouTube according to this article:

Quote:
Google’s Giving YouTube a Pass With Its New Piracy Provisions

Google is implementing a new policy that will smack down search results from sites that get a lot of DMCA requests. That must affect Google's own YouTube, which must get slammed with them all the time, right? Not exactly.

Search Engine Land provides an in-depth explanation of exactly what is going on, but it comes down to one major detail: YouTube video takedowns aren't necessarily DMCA takedowns. In fact, that usually aren't. You see, YouTube has this "nice" feature called Content ID which allows rightsholders to automatically police YouTube content, complain about possible infringement, and have videos taken down. None of this, however, involves the DMCA. This is just handy YouTube functionality.

Of course they're not gonna cut off their own nut-sack. But hopefully someone will do it for 'em.

Peace to you and yours,
Matthew "Dra'Gon" Stohler
