Default Graphics Cards discussion (NVidia & ATI)

Will the GeForce 9800GTX+ be SLi compatible with the current 9800GTX? I read somewhere that they were supposed to drop today by the way but there might have been a delay..

I was reading a review of the new Ati 4870 and 4850 and was very impressed

http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTUyNCwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==
The 4870 almost matches the GTX 260 in everyway eventhough it is supposidely going to be priced at 299$ which is 100$ less than the GTX 260.The 4850 is going to be priced at 200$ and maybe even less, this card beats the 8800GT hands down and beats the 9800GTX in some cases and this is only with the beta drivers so with new drivers they could be even faster.I am really excited about these new cards and this great new competition from ATI means better value for us consumers

Yes indeed the 4850 and 4870 have really wooed everyone and gained a lot of acceptance. It has an incredible amount of stream processors and has a lot of potential. I actualy thought for a second that it would stand up to the GTX 280 though so I don't know what ATI is going to do about competing with that.

Tests for the 9800GTX+ also came back with really good results and surprised those who thought it couldn't be that much better. That sucks for people who invested in the regular 9800GTX too early.

it seems like ATI are always one step behind. two 4870's may outdo a GTX280 whereas there should be ATI's direct competitor.

Nvidia releases way better cards. Nvidia releases a greater range of cards. (i hate new cards every fkn 2 months but i guess its a sign that Nvidia is kickin butt.)

Actually right now CF HD4870 doesnt outdo a GTX280 as there is alot of problem with it apparantly. On other forum someone tested CF HD4870s and benched them with Crysis and amazingly on 1680x1050 with Very High settings it only got 10-11 FPS while when they ran by themselves (single card) it managed 22-23 FPS on Very High.

wOW. LoL, two 4870's in SLi are inferior to running one by its lonely? That's the most awkard thing I have ever heard of in graphics LoL, ATI should really fix that fast!

I agree with ray about seeing new cards every few weeks or months or whatever, I was just discussing that on another post - it only leaves people unsure what to get and waiting on the "new best card", only to have a newer card come out right after you get the one that was the best just a week ago.

So really, I say people should just go with whatever they want and do the SLi thing. Screw wiating for the new stuff to come out, cause with NVidia, it seems they can never just chill on having a good card out. It wasn't this way a few years back but all of a sudden they are in a major rush to put out some products and I personaly think it has very little to do with "competition" with ATI and a lot more to do with probably a new head of the company looking to impress himself and everyone else and keep his job by making as much money as possible.

Just get the card you can afford or like. Don't sweat the new stuff. With 3-way SLi now a standard in the highest end mobos you can always compete with the newest cards by just getting an extra card of what you already have.

Its kinda sad how adding just another card can be just as good if not better than the best card out right now...retarded and its so much cheaper too.

why? cheap and good card vs expensive but a little better?
use google to find 2x 4870x2 vs 3x GTX280 3D Mark score :P
I know that is only 3D Mark but performance is better than great :)

The 4870 is better than the 8800GT, but not the 280GTX.
So it takes two of the new GTX280's to get 47 fps in Crysis? Wow. I was getting the notion just 1 GTX280 would be able to do that.... then again that's a high resolution as well as the 4xaa so......
