ok m8. you like nV,I like ATI.

but ppl who want buy good card sometimes don't want to spend a lot money for perfromance better than 4870 +/- 10% for a GTX280. and I know that GTX280 is right now faster but wait for 4870 1GB an 4870x2. and even than this cards could be betther than GTX280 you'll say: GTX280 is better. not everybody want high performacne for high prize. nV don't do nothing for last 2 years, only cosmetics stuff, ATI sucks for this 2 years. poor performance of this product and awesome card form nv 8800GT/GTS (for low prize!) was killer for them.
now they do a great job. fast cards for a little money.

and for me even 4850 is better than GTX280! why? cause for 1/3 prize I have a AWESOME graphic card for 99% of games (1% is crisis :P).

I definately agree with wyjeba i only got interested in computer hardware last year so the only market i ever knew was the nvidia dominated market and these new cards have started some healthy cometition.

BUT i dont think this should be an argument trying to prove one company is better than the other we should really try to just discuss the grahics cards.Sorry if that came of a bit preachy i have just seen a lot of arguments on this forum.

Anyhu back to the discussion does anybody know if any new drivers have been released for the 4800s because i have only seen preformance tests with the beta drivers

Can anyone tell me if using a PCI-E 2.0 graphics card in a non 2.0 PCI-E slot is ok? The graphics card recommends PCI-E 2.0 but the slot I've used it in for weeks is not 2.0, just reg. PCI-E :(

i would recommend 4870. it beats all the 9800 series on 3dmark06 except for the 280gtx and 9800gx2, but only by a small margin. just think, 4870 running on a single chip can almost be on par with these dualgpu giants, not excluding the fact its nearly 50% cheaper. funny thing was they tested the 4800 series on an nforce chipset mboard. ati-amd all the way!!

this maybe a bit to late to counter your arguement but, 4870x2 has just been released. regardless of their financial troubles it has nothing to do with consumers :) . as long they keep on producing low-price/performance ration cards thats all that matters. with the hd4870x2 they proved that, though it's a bit scary to have a gpu that runs on 80+ degrees..

the actual new line of ati cards are kicking the crap out of nividas cards 1 by jus plain more power and framerate 2 by less power consuption 3 by less money
the only down side of ati is that 90% of the games out there are only compiled for nvidia b/c they pay alot of money to keep it that way so the ati cards wont run as good but even then ati still wins w/ framerate

Well i have to agree and disagree with that. I got the new 4870 x2, and yes, it is a lot more powerful than other card out (nVidia or ATi), it eats more power than other cards, but for me not an issue. For less money, not really, since you can buy i high OC'd GTX 280 for $400-450, while a 4870 x2 running at factory specs cost me almost $650.

Also, i havent really tested my 4870 x2 yet, trying to find good games, but it seems to be a great improvement over my old 8800 GTX OC2E.
