Default How to get a .m4v file compatible with a Playstation 3 format?

Someone online said just rename the .m4v to mp4 format but how is that done? I renamed the file to Something.mp4 but it's still .m4v format. I tried googling my answer and came up with nothing..

You can set the compression rate.
Lower number means less compression and higher quality.

And no need to find a cracked version.

That didn't work, plus it made a 15gb file that when I try to play in vlc media player it just crashes... Wow... This sucks...

I've dealt with these files before (audio files only) and yes, you can actually just rename those to .mp4. If you can't rename or see the ".m4v" part next to the file, then you need to enable file extensions on your computer (on Win7, for example, you'd go to folder options and un-check "hide extensions for known file types").

Hope that helps.

http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/download.html
Avidemux, it's free, opensource, handles many formats, and has various output formats with very robust control. And the option to just copy the encoded video into another container, instead of completely converting. (Similar to what MKV2VOB does, except here you actually have completely control and can do it with any format)

There is an app called TSMUXER gui that was designed just for ps3. It muxes mkv, mp4 whatever into a TS file that the ps3 can read. I used it a lot before I got my boxee box and dont use my ps3 for anything anymore. If the file is in a true MP4 format then TSMUXER just changes the container and its ready in a matter of seconds. :)

First you have to learn wich formats PS3 supports, wich compression, wich codecs, etc...

Then use a program to convert the file.

MP4 and MKV are only containers .avi too. These files may hold a lot of compressed formats or tracks using almost any codec.
An avi file may have a divx, xvid, indeo, raw video, mjpeg and a lot of other vidoe formats inside. (same for audio) MKV may hold several of them on several formats and subtitles too.

M4V means MPG4Video, wich is almost the same as Divx or Xvid (codec), but this file is not a container since it allows only some parameters, not the codec to be changed.

You have to start learning that, then you can covert anything using anything you like.
