I love having DVDs, DVDs is great. I enjoy holding onto the hard copy, and going through the bonus features. However what stops me from getting DVDs from time to time is the fact that it costs 20 to 30 bucks, and there's really nothing but the movie. No bonus features, no nothing, oh wait, subtitles. Ya, thanks a lot Avatar, thanks for that special bonus feature, Subtitles. Awesome!

I thought Windows Media Center/Player was a bug that came with the OS.

DVDs aren't very important to me as much either, its just an out of date medium now. I don't understand why you guys are bagging on Windows Media Player so much. Its a prefect Media Library player. VLC and Foobar rely on playlists which are such a pain but they're great for anything WMP doesn't support.

I no longer have a disc drive installed in my pc. I have a portable drive lying around for when I absolutely need it.

I'd much prefer they not mess with WMP, it's my music library.

i'm a kmplayer user too. i resort to wmp for playing music though....the playlist system is way easier and simpler to use imo compared to other players.

unless someone can refer me to a better one?..

The last time I used Windows Media player has to be 14 years ago, I use a little program called "Window Media Player Classic."

BUT and there's a big BUT, most users don't know. Almost all 3rd DVD player programs rely on some kind of Window codec. WMP isn't the only codec in Windows arsenal. And almost all require DirectX which requires specified codecs.

@nuwc; I've been using foobar2000 for a good while now and found it fairly good. I came across Aimp3 a couple of weeks back and am liking it a lot, much cleaner interface. There's also media monkey if you want an all in one setup...

I've got 3 letters, For all of you:

V.L.C.

The ONLY codecs the player uses, Are its own. VLC does not rely on any external codecs.

Also KMplayer uses its own codecs and it's not so heavy as VLC. To say the truth I left VLC years ago

Conversely, I tried KMplayer once, Because it supposedly supported motion interpolation natively, And it nuked my system on first run.

Took me a month to rebuild my hard drive.

Never again.
