Default New Xbox to Launch Within 18 Months, Says Microsoft Job Listing

In other words; finally better graphics for PC games in a year and a half!

Quote:
Microsoft's job listings have been a little leaky lately. First came news of next-generation Surface PCs, and now there's word of a new Xbox coming within a year and a half.

"Over the next eighteen months Microsoft will release new versions of all of our most significant products including Windows (Client, Server, Phone and Azure), Office and Xbox," a Microsoft job listing said, before Microsoft deleted the post from its Careers Website.

Earlier this week, Microsoft's Brian Hall also made mention of a "new Xbox" as part of a wave of upcoming product updates that also includes Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Microsoft PR tried to explain this away by saying that Hall was only talking about a software update for the Xbox 360.

The job listing, however, was most likely referring to hardware. After all, Windows 8 and Office 15 will be available much earlier than 18 months from now. If there's any one major Microsoft product that's roughly 18 months away, it's a new Xbox device. (That'd be the 2013 holiday season or early 2014 at the latest.)

Details about Microsoft's next Xbox are still hazy. Some reports have claimed that the console will have a Blu-ray player and will require a constant Internet connection to play games. Others have claimed that the next Xbox won't have disc drive at all, or that Microsoft will release both a full-sized console and a smaller set-top box to compete with Apple TV and Roku.

In any case, an 18-month time frame for the next Xbox seems plausible, especially with Nintendo's Wii U due out later this year, and Sony rumored to be working on its next Playstation as well. Just don't expect Microsoft to say much about it as long as it's trying to sell Xbox 360s.

If it doesn't have a disk drive I wont play it. If it constantly needs the internet I wont play it. If it's one of those "game per account" trying to destroy used games type of system I wont buy it.

I buy all my games for my x360, because you dont need connection to the net, you can buy second hand games, and sometimes I even buy games new.

If they start playing hardball, by demanding constant net connection, preventing use of secondhand games etc.. I will immediately mod the damn thing, and NEVER buy even one game, they will ALL be pirated.

Then at least, the games will be MINE forever, to play whenever I want, and I wont be forced to pay the ridiculous amounts of money they want for games

My ass their servers are always going to be available to run your "must be connected" game, if they go that direction.

In short if they go all "dictator" on us, they will get the money it costs to buy the console, and not one cent more from me.

If they keep the structure as it is now, just with more powerful hardware, then they could make some good money from me.

Basically all I want is better games, any other bizarre and moronic "power trip" garbage is NOT wanted.

Sadly of course, one month after its release, PC's yet again , will dwarf the new xbox's tech specs, and we will "again" be stuck at that level of development for probably the next 7 godamn years.

When the x360 came out, it actually out performed your average (mid level price range) PC for a long time, but PC tech improves alot faster these days, so us PC users are going to feel the pinch of stale console tech much quicker, after the new xbox arrives.

In my dreamworld, devs would would go full throttle on PC games, and not worry so much about consoles, as technically they arent even needed.
Unless the average joe wakes up a bit, that will never happen of course.
Because people = stupid.

Never understood the arguments against used games. It's a simple transfer of license, as with any other product, and doesn't make anyone lose out. When one person sells a game to another person there's still only one of them using the service and nothing changes.
The people that make a living out of convincing people otherwise have somehow been extremely successful.
I agree that an internet only or account based games like some sort of psuedo steam would push me to not buy it at all.

Isn't it already reported "no disk drive, no used games" is not true? I'm not sure though but I think I've read it somewhere long time ago

The argument that game companies give is they don't see any money out of it. They want to remove all used game because they think they'll get more money. They blame them not getting more profit on both piracy and used games.
