Thanks for clearning up the confusion over RS banning people - I think there's still a chance of it happening if people are downloading really obvious, newly-uploaded material (eg, the new Harry Potter) for which the links will probably be dead within hours of the upload if the uploader didn't name them so slyly.

There's some files that are up for DL on RS that contain snoops and keyloggers. You have no choice in the matter since you have to DL from someones link that has a trap to trace your account. The majority of this crap is readily available on youtube in the many tuts that people put up for viewing. There's always something about hacking RS and it requires you to DL a file from RS, WACK!!!; your account is theirs.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from the sooo called RS hacks. The other stupid thing are these sooo called RS Premium Links Generators. I won't mention the program they are using but it is sniffing every saved PW you're enter in IE. I know several people who resort to these methods if their account has reached the max for that day and just need one more DL to complete a movie; bad,,,bad,,,bad.

If you're a legit RS user and plan to keep your account private and safe follow the following:

1. LOCK IT.
2. Have a list with strong PW for a every week of heavy usage.
3. Verify the links to ensured that you are not being re-directed.
4. Check the history of you DL's & Uploads.

Clues that something is up:

You reached your max for the day & you've only DL 100mb file.
Emails about resending your PW when you have not reset it in the first place.
You find README files in your upload.
You keep on reaching your max faster even thought you have not DL as much.

Emails to watch out for:

RS support is not going to ask you for your PW or user account by a third party email.
You should know when your account will expired and the status of it.
Any emails asking you to check for expired or locked account is a sure sign of abuse or misused.
If you lock your account RS is not going to sent you a request to unlock it.

i had mine hacked 10 days ago and messaged vapidshare 3 times with no reply,
i`d given up until i saw this post.
I filed a dispute with paypal so let`s see if this hurries them up

Since we are getting off topic, This thread ends here.
To summarize, NO emails you receive about termination of accounts are real. If you cannot log into your account, contact RS! Don't just buy another, or you are letting the hackers win (And basically throwing away money.)
If you loose your account multiple times. Reinstall Windows, install a good anti-virus, and use a good, non hacked download manager. Like Flashget.
Finally, ALWAYS CHECK THE WEBSITE ADDRESS. Everyone knows that rs254-rapidshare.com and rs254.rapidshare.com are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

The account Phishers are very creative, sending emails, real looking fake RS login pages, real RS pages "inside" another page that logs your details....

Sneaky buggers. It's another good reason to have coded links like we have here, you don't see many shady redirects and they cant "hide" links.

RS will however ban your account if they detect too many IP addresses logging into it (shared accounts)
