Default The Real Source of Apple UDIDs Leaked by Anonymous

MSNBC EXCLUSIVE: The real source of Apple device IDs leaked by Anonymous last week

A small Florida publishing company says the million Apple gadget identifiers released last week by the hacker group Anonymous was stolen from its servers two weeks ago. The admission, delivered by the company’s CEO exclusively to NBC News, contradicts Anonymous' claim that the hacker group stole the data from an FBI agent's laptop in March.

Paul DeHart, CEO of the Blue Toad publishing company, told NBC News that technicians at his firm downloaded the data released by Anonymous and compared it to the company's own database. The analysis found a 98 percent correlation between the two datasets.

"That's 100 percent confidence level, it's our data," DeHart said. "As soon as we found out we were involved and victimized, we approached the appropriate law enforcement officials, and we began to take steps to come forward, clear the record and take responsibility for this.”

Just because someone screams Grape, doesnt mean they where. Could be damage control or utter bull. What would the FBI be doing with this info anyway? And do they not believe in encrypting their laptops? This smells fishy.

But why had they that big database containing private info? Does it not sound strange? A private firm collecting sensible data: for what purpose, advertising? It seems a cover-up.

In due time, we'll find out who's actually speaking the truth. For all we know at the moment, Anonymous could be the pointless criminal, or the officials could just be using the opportunity to cover up their actual mistakes and wrongdoing.

Between the video and the article I got the explanation that the company sells Apps for the Apple devices - so I would imagine that the ID's were collected as part of the sales licensing requirements. They did mention that since Apple started phasing out use of these IDs that they had too. The ID's were on an old database no longer being used. Which would explain why it was so easy to hack.

From the tone and information provided in the video interview I think it sounds like the real thing. It's just too thorough for it to be a 'cover up'. If this had been a 'cover up' Blue Toad would have just made an announcement. Watch the interview if you have doubts.

IMO, Anonymous were looking to put some digs into the FBI and/or looking for publicity. I hope they nail A's butts to the wall.

Why does everyone always seem to gloss over the fact that Anonymous released those stupid ID's to the public for any scammer or identity thief to grab onto?

Another reason not to use an apple device.
Meanwhile, on Android.
