Default Video and Recording Software?

Hey i was wondering if anyone knows any good video and recording software to use for video games and uploading to youtube? I am trying to make my videos look better and sound better, what are some of the software you guys use to edit and capture your videos? Also it would be nice if the software is easy to use, i remember trying a few software and it was a bit tricky to get used too so i just stick with Windows Movie Maker and i am not liking the limited functions but appreciate the ease and simpleness of it.

My videos now...

How can i make them to like this with the custom intros (like how did they create those custom intros? they look so nice and fancy where as mines look like trash whenever i tried to make one)?

EDIT New videos will look like this. Think it is a improvement over the others? I think so! Any input, suggestions, feedback is welcomed as i am trying to improve.

Fraps with Sony Vegas.

I don't use them, but I have seen lots of people asking this question.

A whole lot of people are using the free version of: Debut Video Capture Software
Its a great tool that can capture video from multiple sources, incl screen capture in MPEG2.

For games, I would recommend Fraps as a video recording software, it is great for recording games.

The intros in those videos were most likely created with Adobe After Effects, and the videos themselves were probably put together with either Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere Pro.

Hope that helps!

Seems like Sony Vegas is very popular, i tried to install Vegas Pro 9 but it kept giving me a error and when i tried to fix that error it led to another error which eventually caused me to do a system restore yesterday :( The final error was a MSIEXE related one which was a pain in the spine to deal with... Perhaps i'll try to re-download it and reinstall it since it is getting so much recommendation.

I'll try out Debut Video Capture Software too as FRAPS is pretty resource intensive i find, thanks a lot for the suggestion guys, anymore is welcomed.

Not sure how to click on Thanks in this but i'll add to reputation :)

EDIT - downloaded Vegas 10 and so far i am liking it, almost like relearning a new program like i did with photoshop. Will try adobe after effects, is it worth the download? What's the difference between the two, they look similar to me.

Easy and good quality : HD PVR + Sony Vegas Pro

Here an example of what you can do with this setting :

Yeah i thought about that but i don't want to buy any expensive external devices just to record video games, is there another solution like that for the PC except it utilizes the PC hardware and not another entity?

You need at least a video capture card or any external device for the video capture.
The HD PVR automatically encode the video to H264, so with only a capture card you 'll need to use your pc to encode the video.

I don't know much about such equipment, someone else will give you better information.

The problem with using these types of screen capturing software for games is, if the game you are recording uses Punkbuster, you might get kicked from the server you are playing on. Punkbuster might detect it as a hack/cheat. I'm not saying that this will happen with this particular program, but many of these programs (capturing) will definately be seen as a hack.

Fraps was designed to be compatible with games using Punkbuster, as other screen capturing programs were not. I know, Fraps is very "hungry" and might cause problems on some systems.

I used to use a program called Guncam, because I was looking for a game capturing program which gave me more options than Fraps. Guncam offers many more options like several compression methods and ratios to choose from. There is even a built-in editor which allows you to cut your compressed films before it is converted to a Xvid or DivX .avi. Guncam is definately more verstile than Fraps is.

The only downside with Guncam is it has not been updated since June 14, 2007. I recently tried to record a session of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and I was kicked from the server by Punkbuster, because Guncam was detected as a hack/cheat. This has to do with a a program/process which is running in the background called HookProj.exe. You can disable it before starting the game and joining a server, but in the case of BF: BC2, you might experience extreme "flickering" both in-game and when viewing your recording. With some games where Guncam is detected as a hack/cheat by Punkbuster, you can disable HookProj.exe without experiencing any problems and you will get a perfect recording of your session.

You can get a free trial version of Guncam here:
http://www.growlersoftware.com/
Test it and see if this does what you're looking for and if it works with the games you wish to use it with. I have a activation key for the full version if your tests with the trial version are positive. PM me for the key should you need a key. And NO, I am not gonna post it here for obvious reasons.

The ability to use the "Thanks" button was removed from all Discussions sections, except for the Help section. Also, all posts which are older than 1 year, can not be "Thanked".

The only thing you can do is to post a "Thank you." and add to a persons reputation.

Hey finally got around to trying Guncam out and it was pretty good but i thought for some reason it made my fps worst than fraps? Like the game was not as smooth Fraps with Guncam, it made it more jittery or a bit of a screen stutter?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions and recommendation and information, well defiantly try it out a bit more to test it out.

Try adjusting the various settings possibilties.

Go to: Setup > Advanced Setup

Under "Real time video compression options", choose "Fast Compression Version 2".

You will get better resulting quality if you select Fast Compression Version 1 though.

There are also other settings which can improve performance. The Capture resolution, Capture rate, and Number of frames in buffer, can all influence performance.

Play around with all these settings and find out what works best on your system.

Also, the destination drive to which you are saving while capturing should be your fastest drive. It is usually best to select a separate drive which does not store your OS or the game you are currently playing. You might also want to format or deframent the partition you are saving to.

Check out their website for help on the various settings.
