EDIT: I do get pissed off by all these assholes who post 400MB+ links on filesonic, you can't download without an account..
Some of them remembered to set the option allowing free users to download files up to 1GB in size, but any file over 1GB (plenty of those too) is definitely premium only. Annoying either way, and the two different caps just makes it more confusing.

Has anyone else seen the Lifetime membership thing?
I've never used FSn but I'm working away from RS by using FSrv and trying to find another host. The FSn "lifetime" is $150 (which is a heck-of-a-lot better than MU's 299£!)
but I don't know if that's the life of the up/down-ability or the life of the uploaded files. MU's membership is definitely lifetime in all respects, but FSn doesn't have any details.

I see tons of stuff on FSn so I think I will try a month of their service, but can anyone really tell me if that's a good deal? I've easily capped $300 over 4yrs between RS, MU, FSrv, HF, etc... (mostly because I used to go month to month)

I understand the risks here are that they might be shut down in a week. But putting that type of risk aside (or assuming at least 18months of service), does anyone have any thoughts on going ahead with the Lifetime Membership?

Filesonic is pure crap (sorry for the rude word), as their download speeds vary between 5 KB/s and 250 KB/s and they have not understood that greed doesn't lead to success in their business!

If they would treat free downloaders nicely and generously, they would find out that many would start to buy a premium account with time (as I did with FileServe and I'm happy with it).

But instead of earning less in the beginning, treating people nicely, doing a good job... they are greedy, have no idea what they are doing and treat people like dirt

For me NEVER a Filesonic account, NEVER

Ya, thats the real breaker: I'm not uploading atm cuz I just moved and the only ISP is Verizon (non-FIOS plans) so uploads are daunting until they give me back my FIOS or another provider shows up. Thanks for the input so far.

I haven't even tried a premium download from them yet so I can't attest to the speeds, but if 0.5 MBps is accurate than it would def not be worth it. Anyone else have any experience to back this or refute it?

Right now I typically see about 1-2MBps from RS and Fsrv using IDM.

Not that I don't believe you, but I do find it just a tad odd that you have so many warnings and you seem to be the only one who's defending FSn. Just saying...

For downloads I like filesonic more than fileserve. Speed for me is much better than fileserve. Only major annoyance that I cant use my favorite download manager in Windows to download with multiple streams (they suggest jdownloader which I dont like). But I got around it (using Linux).

And of course .. for uploads filesonic ROX. Superb speeds from Europe servers.. fileserve upload speeds from Europe is pure crap unfortunately.

As a free user, speeds seem fairly decent and consistant for me, only downside is the manual input of the recaptcha.
Unfortunately yesterday and today Filesonic isn't working for me. The linkgrabber on JDownloader is taking about 20 minutes to check anything only to time out and say 'not checked' and trying to download anything has resulted in a hoster problem. Until this problem I've used it regularly with no complaints.

Beware of Filesonic, they found a way to CHARGE me 9$ for a 1 month subscription. Lucky my debt card was nearly empty or they'd have taken it.

I googled and acknowledged that i'm not the only one:

@TKAlex, code that link, and I assume you had previously signed up for a 1 month premium account? That's exactly what happened to me with Hotfile; I signed up for 1 month, and got billed again next month. Seems like this is actually a common policy. I don't think it's criminal, they just don't make it clear at all that you are actually signing up for a recurring payment.

I just got an email from FileSonic saying they're discounting the trade-in price by 25% off the current prices for this Saturday and Sunday. I just thought I'd share the news in case anyone is interested in getting a premium account with their earnings.

Quote:
This coming weekend (21st & 22nd May 2011), trade in your points for a premium account with a bigger than ever discount! We are knocking off an extra 25% off the trade in price!
(Example: 1 month premium will cost you $3.75, the lifetime premium will cost you $62.08 from your balance!)
