Coming from someone who used both many a times....I would have to say Torrents > Filesharing. You just have to find a private tracker with a good community behind it.

So far i've experienced torrent has one or another downside, either you'll have speedy speed with infringement issue. Or ultra slow speed (less then 20KB/s) and ISP with one eye closed to the infringement policy. Dead torrents with no seed are everywhere as well, that should pars with filehost. Truly, depend on your location and ISP either filehost or torrent work better for you, both means the same. |

I have been using torrents increasingly at the moment. I stopped using torrents a few years back when I got caught from an American anti-piracy group and notified of it from my ISP. That alone wasn't what why I stopped, but filesharing had faster speeds and is based around a forum where you can be community and still anonymously share. Since this whole ordeal with piracy raving around and file hosts getting thrown around I have yet to find any service which is even remotely as good as Megaupload. This was the only service I used, it was free. For years I have been able to download gigs of data from Megaupload on a daily basis, it still is the only server to have that ability. I do not have the time to monitor links of hosts, and I won't pay them money just to download a file. There is also some of the goings on in the forums, the way some things gnaw at you like premium only links when people are just copying from other forums. Insisting on using the free services it limits what I can actually download. A vast majority of the premium only links are actually from torrents, a few times when I complained I have had people PM the torrent. |

One place you'd see torrents being actively used are the poorer nations.. where the speeds are slow, internet connections keep getting disconnected.. I am not able to max out my connection (7mbps) with any of the file sharing hosts as a free user.. (I could though till a month ago these new hostings sites aren't that generous).. these days I get those hacked premium accounts which they give out on sites.. I use torrents only if I need to download a HD movie cant bother to keep clicking on each link one after another.. |

I have been downloading torrents for the past 10 years and I have never received any letter nor did I hear of anyone receiving one in my country. I always max out my connection (30 mbit) and they are free. However if I can find what I need on jumbofiles, zippyshare or uploadbaz I will download it nonetheless. They are great for free users.

My Internet connection it's slow, my download limit it's low, I live outside any country with strong anti-piracy policies, and I don't think the FBI will raid my house...

Convenience was a big factor for me when my dsl line had connection problems. Torrents just pick up where they left off when service is restored. Free file hosting sites do not typically allow resuming downloads. The private trackers I use all have RSS, so I can set up the torrent client to automatically download a new TV episode, whenever it appears. When I want 720p TV shows, they are often over 1GB in size. The hosting sites generally have a 1GB limit for free downloads. But I do often use links from tehparadox when the files are small enough. One private tracker I use has tons of movies in 1080p encode, remux, and full blu-ray format. These are not generally available from file hosting sites. Even if they were, downloading 15GB to 50GB movies from file hosting sites would be pretty impractical. As far as security is concerned, I'm spoiled where I am as there are several cable and dsl providers and a multitude of ISPs to chose from. My ISP, which is separate from my dsl line provider, does not throttle or monitor traffic at all, and does not respond to complaints from RIAA or MPAA or any others of that ilk. That could change if some new proposed legislation goes into effect. |

i do torrents cuz of the great download speed, every time i use a file sharing site i only get a max of 35-50 kbs and that's not good enough for me!

I never used torrents much before until only a few months ago when my friend kindly shared his Seedbox with me. I would never download a torrent using just a client as there's very little protection of your IP address that way and it is pretty much exposed for the world to see. However, since sharing a Seedbox for over 3 months I decided to buy my own and I have to say I now use it a lot more then I use my Real Debrid account. All of the torrent downloading is done on the server. When the file is ready you just login to the FTP and download through your browser. |

Use torrents only if you really need!! If you have good seeds you will get almost the same speed, but your secondary tasks like browsing, online gaming will get very slow because one torrent uses very ports on router to connect to every peers and seeds. |
