So what exactly is bad about that?
I use PowerDVD 10 for that - because I watch Bluray and no DVD's.
I appreciate the lack of support on the Windows 7 Media Player because I can use something like Shark 007 CodecPack to allow me to play back every file that I want and how I want (DXVA is the magic word here).
DVD playback expensive? Let's just say that VLC-Player is a pretty cheap alternative (freeware).

Windows 8 is as far as I can tell the exact same as Windows 7 and there are some improvements to that (Recovery and Refresh-functionality). Let the MetroUI stand aside - it's for the "multi-device-os"-badge. Not for Desktop-Usage.

I don't think that it will "suck" and be "sh*t" ... I'm gonna take a look on it when it's fully released and then I'm going to judge. But what I read and saw of Windows 8 so far seems kinda promising and nice. Nothing horribly awful so far.

Windows NT and 2000 weren't awful. I'm still running 2000 on a several computers (including this one); I haven't found many compelling reasons yet to upgrade to that new-fangled XP.

Windows 3.x was a big improvement over DOS when it came to graphics programs. With DOS, the application had to supply a driver for every possible printer or graphics chipset.

That's the NT branch for you. MS made sure their business offerings were at least moderately stable before shipping.

If you don't like Metro just turn it off and you have pretty much Windows 7 underneath.

I say this because when everyone listed OS's above they always leave out a few in-between ones.

like..... Windows Neptune.

Why am I the first to mention it? Because I have a copy, knows what it looks like, knows how it acts, and touched it. I think a lot of you go with popular knowledge and maybe aren't truly speaking from your hearts. I find that very saddening in intellectual discussions.

crash_

EDIT: by the way, I think Neptune would have been a great OS, and im disappointed it didnt achieve its glory as well.
Millennium sucked balls. I was pretty hyped about it's looks unlike the abysmal grey that was 2000. Millennium crashed and slowed down faster then a crackhead coming off a high. They did disappoint. crash_ indeed. Never heard of Neptune but it didn't release to consumer and they did merge with another dev team to create XP, so I'm good with not knowing.

I will just say....Win ME did crash now and then but its far from "suck some bad words". I have used them for several years on my PC. Also I did read about other ones who had much crash of ME, I guess it was up to some type of hardware and drivers that doesn't go along with WinME kernel.

I don't have any problems with windows 7, although i still haven't upgraded to it (because i haven't found a need to)

I'll probably be using windows xp untill my computer fails or i get a new one, then i'll be using windows 7 untill windows 9 or what ever it is.

windows 8 should have only been made for tablets\phones, its horrible as a destop os.

I hate google, but bring on chrome OS and hopefully MS will have to find their niche instead of trying to take over the world again. They are so blindly greedy that while they are busy piggy backing off other companies good ideas they leave behind the one thing they got right.
