Application Xp Terminal Windows 8, the future or a failure in the making? Will you use it?

I think Microsoft wants a share of the Tablet market, but I hope it fails and they rethink their strategy.

I think it will be good on tablets and such, but there's no way I'm using it on a desktop or non-touch screen laptop. Win7 is great, and I'll be keeping it.

Windows 8 for the people who will actually "use" it will be quite good, for the past few weeks I have been using the developer preview I must say its quite "amazing" if it does what they want for it to achieve and I hope it does.

Just wanted to remind everyone that the Metro interface will be optional for desktop users. Aside from that it looks like it'll mostly run like a tweaked and modified verson of Windows 7.

I had no idea metro was optional. I did hear it had desktop mode as an "app", which didn't sound convincing enough for me.

Yep. Windows 8 will still function as a desktop OS with the option to turn Metro on or off depending on your wants/needs. Nothing will be forced on the user, not metro atleast.

They are probably just going by the developer preview. People overwhelmingly said they didn't want the desktop to get replaced when the preview came out, and microsoft said they heard the complaints loud and clear.

The first public beta should clear everything up.

So, making a poll lining a beta product against finished products isn't pointless in what way?

To do that on the developers preview you have to change values through the regedit. There is no simple option to do it through the the control panel or anything like that and if you do enable the old start menu it kills the Metro UI. They may make it easier in later releases but as of now this is the way it is.

That was for the developer preview, not the beta or final product.
