As a programmer and an animator , I use both of them , but XP is way better than Vista , XP uses your PC's full capabilities unlike Vista , if you need a proof , ask the PC gamers . Or as an example , try to play GTA IV in both XP and Vista , if you are an expert in graphics , you'll notice that the graphics of the game in XP are more flexible and rarely becomes slow , unlike Vista's DX10 bull...t , also the game's itself as an application , works so so (so x99) much better in XP than Vista (like MGS2 sub). Also video authoring , 3d rendering , audio & video conversions , security applications , keygens and many many (many x99999) other stuff that works better in XP than even Vista Ultimate itself . In one word : VISTA SUCKS !!!! But that's what I think , what about you ???

I'm a comp science UG and for most of our programming, XP is used for maximum compatibility for our current programmes... I have tried both (dual booting) and before SP1 came out for Vista the performance differentials were just too much. E.g. local and network file copying speeds were intolerable and that blasted UAC which we'd just turn off after installation, and an obligatory 10% fps drop in games made me delete Vista pretty quickly... And now since 7 is on the horizon... i'm actually booting xp and 7 rc and seriously thinking about migrating to 7 permanently when RTM hits the market.... 7 is what vista should have been, ad nauseam...

I use Vista, I think that it's better. Imagine yourself sticking with Windows 98 when XP came out, it was bugged too but it's alright now.

For those that are not good at computers and just like to play around on their system I would have to say that XP is the best best to use due to the fact Vista is not worth the money you have to spend on it and even MS has stated it was a waste for them to make and that is why Win7 is out (or will be here in a few months depends on how you look at it). For those that are really good at computers (programmers and such) I would suggest using Linux. That is the best but since it works from the command line and you have to remember a million different commands (well a lot of commands) it is not for those that are not really good with computers.

Well ... Vista .. looks better ... DirectX 10 support which is not so critical ... the response of the system is little bit slower but it look nice and if u turn off the UAC and couple of unusefull features is actually great . swaped from XP ... to 64 bit ultimate ... and cant say one complaint ... turn off drives indexing as well ... XP on the other hand is faster in Direct X 9 than vista ... Buy vista .. no issues whatsoever

Hmm win 7 in first benchmarks has almost the same perf. drop as Vista in DX9 to XP .. and the same perf in DX10 ... difference 1-2% is nothing ... it is the benchmarking error ... ... +/- 1 FPS ... it responses a little faster ... not a very big difference . And copy speed .. hmm did not recognize that ...

istari Well, if all you want is "eye candy" and looks then I would have to say that you made the right choice in choosing Vista but if you wish to have an OS that is not a resource hog, a RAM hog, and a hard drive hog then I would have to say that XP is the better choice....Sorry but to me there is more to an OS then pretty colors and flashy graphics..

Windows 7 is best. 1) Faster than Vista (apparently faster than XP too) 2) Better-looking than both Vista and XP 3) Quicker boot time 4) Fast installation 5) Smarter, knows drivers on the back of its palms
