The entire time I had xp running on my machine I hated it.

I have been running vista ultimate since before its release along with mac os x leopard.

Vista may have a ton of faults or things people don't like but for me its a great os.

I love having my task bar transparent, as well as having my windows transparent on the outside as well. As far as games, movies and etc. I have no problem running anything really. I even run an old game (rome total war) + alexander expansion and that is for xp, i dont even run in compatibility mode and it runs fine. I also play a range of other games (star wars battlefront, rise of nations, gta san andreas, gta vice city, star wars battlefront 2, star wars republic commando, return to castle wolfenstein , alien vs predator [which is like 6 years old i think] and team fortress 2).

I do a lot of my more technical stuff on the mac side of my partition , but most of my gaming and movie watching, web browsing i do on the vista side with no problem.

I guess it depends what version of vista you are running, what computer setup you have, hardware etc. But for me vista runs great, so does mac os x leopard.

I have been running Xp and Linux for years. I don't personaly care for Vist other than its nice visual effects. I find that all my games, software, ect run much faster and more reliable on Xp than on vista. Linux on the other hand everything runs great the only down fall is there are not many games you can play on it.

The reason most ppl have problems with SP2 and SP3 in xp is because the install them on top of all the extra crap they have on their systems. You need to rebuild the xp cd with SP2 or SP3 split streamed into it for best results. There are a lot of programs out there that if you have them on your system when installing SP2 or SP3 some of the main files wont get updated because they use those files. Rebuilding the xp cd is easy these days there are lots of programs to do it with such as nLite RyanVM's intigration tool. Just google for it.

I think that nobody of those people who have a negative opinion about Vista has ever used Vista for any significant period of time. Just ask them what exactly they do not like about it, and you will get dumb, blank stares. These people are merely trying to justify their sticking to XP (for whatever reason they do this).

I have used Vista Ultimate for over a year, both on a 5-year-old Dell laptop and on a brand new DIY HTPC. It is fantastic and any potential annoyances (such as UAC) can be turned off easily.

I have used vista for about a year on two different machines one a core 2 duo 1.8ghz with 2gb of ram and on a core 2 quad 2.4 with 4gb of ram and in both cases even after SP1 for vista it takes up 20% more resources and about 1/3 of the ram or more. Now with 4gb of ram there is no reason it should take over 1gb of ram just to idle.

Also at the last hacking convention they proved that vista still isn't as secure as xp sp2 or sp3. Vista was hacked in 1 1/2 min xp sp2 & sp3 an average of 4 min 45 sec mac took over 18 hrs and the *nix systems took over 3 days.

Now on the other hand Vista does have some nice visual effects but so does Mac OS X. Now since I go for performance in my apps and games Xp is still the best choice since it uses about half or less of the resources that vista does. These days you can even get DirectX 10 for Xp or if you are going for visual effects and powerful apps you can even put Mac OS X an almost any desktop with a little tinkering.

I think once you disable some of the annoying features that Vista offers you'll find it much better than XP. I'm loving the Vista I have on my laptop rather than the XP I have on the PC. It has a very sniffy look to it :)

if u got nice pc hardwares then its vista
but if u got old hardwares stick with xp
vista got so many features, networking user friendly, option for battery
and visually, imagine a wallpaper movie (mpg) when u activate the dreamscene, very easy to use DVD maker

I found the networking portion of vista rather confusing to me. A lot of the options are hidden under more menus, as if to make it harder for user to mess with it (mess it up..LOL) I'm more used to XP's straightforward menu.

Another Vista nag that i can't stand is each time you transfer stuffs via network, it calculates the time going take. If i transfer big files like 10GB+, after 5mins it still calculating the time I ended up just push the file from XP to Vista instead of the other way.

Vista's file management system is still messed up even after SP1 it will litterally take you 5x as long to move a file across the network in vista than in xp.
