It may actually be on iPhones also.

Using a Nexus One currently and planning to get the Galaxy Nexus, so this whole CarrierIQ crap hasn't really affected me, but seriously CarrierIQ has a lot of explaining to do about this BS along with the carriers and manufacturers that allowed this to be put on phones.

This link has more info about CarrierIQ, including a video showing it recording keystrokes.

Even the feature phones past '06 probably have Carrier IQ. Just mod your phone and delete the thing. It's not like Android doesn't have a massive modding community.

How do I delete the thing? I'm on MIUI. Any how, it's ridiculous how they tell the guy to cease and desist and threaten legal action. Where are OUR rights? Isn't what they are doing illegal? This seriously pisses me off. UGGGGHHHH. Technology s probably a BAD thing these days. And man they seriously need to overhaul the whole patent thing too. Not everything should be patented. There is just so much wrong with the world today. The future does not look bright at all.

If you're on MIUI then you have no problem, its was removed a while back and was stated in one of their changelogs. Most custom ROMs and stock Nexus lines don't have it so you're good :)

I don't think it's a matter of "dumb enough". Just a lack of knowledge in many cases {me, for one until I came across this thread}. Then there are most who really don't give a d@mn or refuse to listen to "doom-sayers".

However, now that I know. I am wondering which of these 2 are better to get {CM7 or Miui}? I've googled both and they seem pretty cool. Also, what about the apps I already have on my Evo 4g? Will they stay or do I have to reinstall {I'll definitely be doing a major backup before I switch}.

I don't use mine as a phone and don't have phone service on it anyway as I bought it 2nd-hand from a friend. I use it as a PDA, music player on-the-go and a reader {thank the gods for ebooks - WOOHOO }.

Peace to you and yours,
Matthew "Dra'Gon" Stohler

Use Titanium backup to backup your apps as in most cases if you're installing for the first time you'll have to wipe the phone totally but subsequent updates or change or ROMs don't require you to.Get titanium backu from the store, backup your apps ,install ROM of your choice, install your apps from the backup and presto you're good to go.

are tutorials on how to go about rooting your phone and then installing any ROM of your choice.

Please remember to code tag any external links, an easy way is to highlight your links and press the "#" button on the toolbar.
Or you can manually type in the code tags... [code]Links[/code]
[url] tags need to be removed from links as they make the links live (click-able), they do not display correctly & send a referrer when clicked ie our site details get sent to the other site which can be problematic

Doesn't the president of the US have a Blackberry? I wonder who he's been calling?

Yeah but I remember seeing something about his phone being security security something or other on the news (don't mean to be so technical 'n all). Of course, he's POTUS so all the security available will probably go into keeping the phone secure.
