Personally I go only for subs. The voices used for dubs and the translations are off most of the time that I prefer to listen to the original voices and get more accurate translations from the subtitles only. The only exception is probably Dragon Ball Z, of which the dubs are not that bad even though the translations are a little off at times.

watching dub for me is too painful. You know when ever anime gets a dub they change everything they see fit just take a good look at yu gi oh and naruto censoring blood, nudity, the scripts, making some home made opening

It's subs, and it's not even close. There are some cases however where the dubs are done extremely well, like with Ghost in the Shell or Cowboy Bebop. But the majority of the time I watch with original dialogue and subs.

ya, when something has subs you gets sucked in to what you're watchin' but if it's dubbed you're constantly aware of how bad it sounds and it never..ever matches what you think it should sound like!

Subs hands down...if I have to watch a dubbed version, no freaking way I'm going to think that it's a bad anime, no matter what anyone say. Unless it has been proven that the voice actors are real pros and they do match the characters. (Cowboy Bebop is one...) Of course I would prefer a RAW one so I can watch the whole thing, but unfortunately I have never gone past the basics course of my Japanese lesson, so...

I prefer watching Dubs. I want to watch something in a language that I understand, and I honestly hate reading subtitles. The only time I actually want to watch something in subtitles is with Live Action shows. Besides that, dubs all the way.

I found it funny that most of the time, people who prefer dubs are either people who aren’t able (unused) to read subs properly, too young to understand foreign language, or a very minority of people who cannot stand to hear verbal Japanese language. I’m yet to find valid excuses that people prefer dubs because it is better than the original. As for myself, I should be neutral point of view in this case. I’m not Japanese, and I’m not from English speaking country. Do I want dubs on my own language? A big NO there! I found myself comfortably watching Japanese speaking anime with English subtitles just fine. Why bother risking lower quality voice actors in the show when you could enjoy the original, you only required to read texts on screen, hardly a problem.

I think it really depends on what anime you are watching If the anime is in a western settings, I would prefer english dub It would be very strange listening to japanese voice while scrambling it into english settings best example, Code Geass as for me, i think some english dub anime are way better than the original japanese for example full metal panic (the submarine sounds like starcraft terran lol vry nostalgic) (both thumbs down for dragonball Goku's voice in jap) Last edited by deepsage; 07-02-09 at 05:32 AM.

ofc subs! nothing compares to the original voice act of an anime. it is the anime's soul in my opinion. Subs for the win :)

As long as it comes from a very good subbing team, definitely SUBS. I tried watching both to compare the difference, most time DUBS sucks. I don't mind having to read subtitle and watching pictures at the same time, at first it might be really hard, but once you got used to it its fine.
