It's so much better and frankly somewhat badass to be able to watch Akira Kurosawa movies with the subs turned off.
Sure thats the optimal way but not everybody is ready to study a language just for that ^^

Subs...

Dubbed sounds weird. They' sound like they overreact to everything..

I go for subs - sounds better and you can pick up some Jap words too.
Sometimes meanings get changed in dubs, they mostly sensor the swear words.

Agreed! Often the translations are altered as well.

both for me, subs or dub I dont mind. I feel that sometimes the subs are altered too since they are fansubs and same with dubs. I like dubs where it fits multicolored, I mean I can't see a black man/white man speaking japanese. I like funny dubs like Ghost Stories. Sh*t is hilarious!

When it's really good dubbing like Baccano, I don't mind watching it.

Amazing that this thread is still alive. Couldn't believe it when it told me that I'd already voted in it, after being away for two years in the military!

Dubs are the best in my opinion. I hate having to read the subtitles because I miss the animation, and the dubs make it more enjoyable in my opinion.

I don't mind which, but it depends on the anime..
Cowboy Bebop, loved it dubbed loved it subbed.
But with Fullmetal Alchemist - alphonse elric voice drove me up the wall. So I had to watch it dubbed.
Watched brotherhood subbed and didn't mind the voices.

There are plenty of good voice acting animes around (that are dubbed) but things like naruto and bleach dubbed is shocking.

I definitely prefer subs, they preserve the anime in it's original state and the meaning of the words are not lost in translation.

Ha...Dont know if someone already said this but I thought this poll was going to be: would you rather have rims or a really good sound system in your car...yeah my answer would be the same either way though...this has probably already been stated too but dubbing tends to also deteriorate the overall sound quality of a film...Ghost in the Shell and various older versions of Hayao Miyazaki films are good examples of this...sorry if this post turned out to beI didnt read much of this topic...cuz theres like a million pages...
