Ghost in the Shell question...

Can any of you anime blokes (or blokettes) give me a basic primer as to what order I should watch the various entries in the GITS in?

Watch the original movie first obviously
Personally I would watch Stand Alone Complex 1 and 2 next just so you pad out your knowledge and interest in the rest of Section 9 .........then I would watch Innocence
If you watch Innocence straight after Ghost in the Shell I dont think you care enough about Batou and Togusa to appreciate the story you just lap up the graphics ......and wish Kusanagi would hurry up and show up!!

In my experience after that you will feel slightly anti-climactic ......give it a few months and watch original movie again followed by Akira to remember why you fell in love with the whole thing in the first place!

I saw the original years ago and remember being really struck by the story and the look of the movie itself.

Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. Solid State Society (movie)

the laughing man and individual 11 are compilation movies based on the 2 anime series meaning they are just the two seaons broke down and made into quick fast movies about them. season 1 is the laughing man and the second season is about the individual 11 meaning those are the person/persons they are after.
