How did you start watching Anime/Manga?

It all started for me when I watched Naruto dubbed on adult swim one night last year. I was like "Wtf dis is mad and its like a cartoon" so after that I did some research and I found out about this whole other world, which we call Anime.

When I was about 10 I watched lots of cartoons and one of them was Captain Tsubasa, then was DRAGON BALL and so it started.

There have been always dubbed anime in Arabic countries since ancient times, even my parents watched some of the very old series like "Future Boy Conan" and "Grendizer".
I was, like every other child/kid, watching them in TV too. Some stuff I liked was "Detective Conan" and "Dragon Quest: Adventure of Dai" and some others I can't remember now. And of course they were dubbed in Arabic. Going by the stereotypical view on anime I grew up so I stopped.

But on some day a friend of mine showed me "Samurai Champloo" and i was like WTF, why this great stuff doesn't air on our TVs, and decided to watch anime. And I figured out that even the stuff I liked on TVs were horribly censored and edited.

EDIT: just saw profg86's post. Captain Tsubasa was one of the anime I watched when I was young too.

oddly that was when i was obsessed with neon genesis evangelion, and i saw a hot pic of rei ayanami, got obsessed, and now im not much into it, i like soul eater now, and that character in my sig and avatar(avatar i drew) is a girl.

It all began with Naruto manga! Got so interesting that I started watching Naruto anime and along the way I discover the world of anime! Didn't realize this world exist till I was 14 years old!

I watched DBZ too before Naruto, but I didn't really call that an anime.

started with dbz and pokemon dubs on tv when i was younger, i had an idea that they were originally japanese, though i didnt know much about anime/manga.
then beyblade dubs at which point i realised that it was a distinct genre/style, not just cartoons

then i got into art, so got more interested in anime and manga.
maybe final fantasy games also had a bit of an influence? artwork was probably an important factor

i suppose the first anime i watched properly was trigun, then a few others, but i stopped for a while. more recently i got back into anime cuz of claymore.
actually i wasnt really into manga before because it wasnt as readily available, but after the claymore anime i started reading the manga - so thats probably the first manga i read properly.
