Hmm can't even remember what hooked me up to anime anymore, but guess one of the first Anime was DBZ in 1986-8 which was in one of the Video tape packages my parents got from relatives in Hong Kong. Started to collect anime around the 1993ish or something. OMG when i think about the Money I spend on Video tapes just to exchange anime between friends... (God bless the internet nowdays ). Oh well still like to watch anime from time to time but not that hooked up anymore :p

Meh... When I read the title, I thought to answer: on VHS/CDs but turns out the ideas are different. I started watching CDs of oldies like Trigun ages ago. Things have really changed since then.

Well, I didn't know the cartoons as anime until I was in high school and only really got into them during Uni. However, Samurai Pizza Cats was the first one I saw that came on in the evenings when I was 4 or 5. Sailor Moon, Dragonball, and later DBZ in high school really got me hooked.

I got started with manga after series terminated with unsatisfactory endings.

Pokémon, although I only thought of it as a cartoon. What really got me into it is when a friend of mine showed me Rave Master and I read it in class. And I wanted to read more.

well i watched NINKU first when AXN started airing in India. I dont know it was called anime back then. really loved the anime. Then i watched all the anime that were aired in AXN.

My dad went to Blockbuster for a kids movie and came home with the anime movie Metropolis. I was really mad at first cause it wasn't like a disney thing that I expected, it was in subtitles (I later discovered it was dubbed, but I ended up liking the japanese better) and being rather young I was upset that it was rated PG-13 or R or something for adult content. I can't remember right now.

Anyway, after complaining about it for a bit I took it upstairs and grudgingly put it in the DVD player. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I'd never seen anything like it, I really fell in love with the unique style or Animation, which I'd never seen before, combined with a somewhat adult story that I'd also never come across in a cartoon. I probably watched it like.. 8 times before he took it back to the store (I really need to find it now that I think about it).

After that I looked up other anime styles, my Aunt sent me Spirited Away for my birthday, and it's basically been my favorite form of entertainment ever since. The rest is history.

Of course now my interests have gone from movies (still love Miyazaki) to anime shows (my first was Inuyasha :P) and manga (I'm an addict, I'm always reading)

I watch anime since 1998, the first I watch was Dragon Ball Z.
In 2002 I started to read my first manga that was Evangelion.

I started out watching pokemon when I was little (pathetic i know ), later on my friends pointed out better anime like dragonball z and what not.

i started about 10 years ago i guess when i was a kid, the first thing i saw was sailormoon,heidi, captain tsubasa and his endless football fields xD i now but there wasnt anything else to see, anyways i didnt now it was anime till like 4 years ago or so and from there i started expanding to manga too and discovered how anime was so less cooler than manga because anime had alot of refill (exept movies those can't be refilled)

I can't exactly remember which anime was the first one I watched but I wasn't a fan because it did not contain the elements that attracted me. Later I was exposed to the samurai theme anime such as kenshin and then I was hooked.

Well, my uncle used to run 2 video stores (one in downtown St. John's, Antigua, the other out of his backyard in the hills) and the one in town had a pretty decent selection of '90's anime. I used to spend most of my summers with him when I was a kid, and he let me watch pretty much anything I wanted, as long as I stayed away from the back room (where all the porn was). My very first anime series was Ronin Warriors, back in early 1998. I was pretty freaked out since the worst thing that I had watched up til that point was maybe some of the weirder Merry Melodies cartoons, but I watched the whole series for 3 days straight.

I watched both of the M.D. Geist movies following that (yeah, I was inconsistent), and my mind was subsequently blown. After that, I hopped from series to series, and aside from one incident where I left La Blue Girl playing on the public screen in front of a bunch of kids (long story), I was pretty much left to my own devices. About 6 years ago, he changed the video store in town into a fashion outlet, but by then I had already started watching anime on my own. I still keep in touch with him, though.
