I am looking hopefully for either dark anime like spawn from the late 90s on hbo, or maybe as close or same elements as final fantasy advent children. i used to always watch dbz and i stopped watching any anime after that.

I love sci fi too but id like eiither dark anime or well just i guess recommend thanks

I would like to recommend you "One Piece" ... this is on going Anime, one of the best anime out there .. until now, it has more than 350 episodes ...

dark as in gory, mature, the only real way i can even describe it is back in the late 90s how spawn the animated series on hbo was.

If you like ninjas a classic is Ninja Scroll. I just watched "Sword of the Stranger" and it was a surprisingly good samurai anime. Vampire Hunter D is also good, nice and gory and dark.

Elfen Lied is pretty gory
Baccano (mainly for the awesome characters)
Mnemosyne (definitely has A LOT of blood and gore)
Black Lagoon for gunfights
Golgo13 (think Hitman the anime)
Higurashi (dont be fooled by the cute girls)

Thats what i can think of for now.

Dark themed storylines, well I recommend the following:

Berserk - Now this is the Darkest themed Anime I saw( and Manga ) Dark Fantasy rather. And pretty good Action and an immediately lovable main character. And trust me, You'll get more than enough gore.

Basilisk - Quite nice Action, Innovative take on Ninjas. I wont say this is absolute Dark, but Id call it a pass. A bit of Gore here and there, and quite a sorrowful touch to the strory too..

Claymore - You wouldn't wanna miss on this if you wanna go for Gore (uh, rhyme not intentional). The Storyline is good and even though it doesnt rival Berserk in terms of Dark theme..its a highly recommended Anime

For beginners I wouldn't recommend anything too intricate in plot to start with. If you really want a dark anime that is very good, try Noir. Trigun is a great anime for newbies, too, as it was the first one I ever watched. My favorite anime, FLCL, is also a great short anime for newbies, seeing as it is only six episodes.

I really dont mean to blow my own trumpet..but the ones I mentioned, and Elfen Lied by another member are the abt the only ones that fulfil ur given speifications.

At this point,, ur free to do ur own research a bit on what we posted and choose. Do let us know, in this thread, once you have chosen.
