My first was episode 5 of the 90's version of Guyver...hyperzoanoid team 5 (and the guyvers) blew me away and i was hooked to the genre...i followed that with Venus Wars and Akira, then hit on Urotsukidoji, Devilman, Cyber City Oedo 808, Macross, Patlabor, and all the other vids on the 'manga' label...

To be fair, at the time, there wasnt really a big selection of anime available, with a random selection of now quite cliche titles available....when DVD arrived the imports stepped up a lot, and several more distribution labels appeared - ADV being one of the best...when the money was coming in regularly, i was converting a vast wealth of it into anime!

I have explored back into the early days, where some genuinely amazing hand drawn titles exist (such as Space Battleship Yamato to name but one), but more recent stuff seems to do it for me these days...i loved the Ghost in the Shell series' for their uber tech logical conclusions, Deathnote for its quirky darkness, Monster was epic and enjoyable for its face scratchingly uncomfortable premise, and the execution of it's overall storyline was a wonder to behold! Enjoyed the 2005 series of Guyver, more for its monster design and in depth version of the original -didnt even mind the dubbed version! Gantz was awesome too, worked on so many different levels - I read a guy writing he thought its was too simple and cliche, but I have to disagree with that personally, as it was at once strikingly different in concept from anything i had previously encountered and still is, delivering on comedy as well as darkness and proper darkness at that!

But if im honest, I dont find many things intellectually stimulating enough these days, everything seems to much like people going through the motions...please help me find more deep and psychological anime!

My dad woke me and my brother up around 1am to watch ghost in the shell (the original Movie).
We had to been like 5 or so.
Its that or Akira but i can't really remember which one i watched first. Both were amazing animes at the time and still stand the test of time.

Card Captor Sakura! <3 Love love love. I watched rose of Versailles, too, which is technically older, but only later in syndication.
