Maybe you can help me with something..
I have Lord of the Rings 2nd part, and I am having difficulty converting it. I think its the header of the file that is causing the issue. The file is in 2 MKV parts, the 2nd part worked perfectly fine. The 1st part however isn't working, when I try to extract the video & audio from the MKV, it extracts like 40megs worth in total. I tried using Gotsent and it said adjusting Headers and stops there. I can using MediaInfo and it will display all the information about the video, I can play the video using Media Player Classic just fine, I just cannot extract the Video & Audio out of it to change it to MP4. Is it possible to fix the header of the file? I am guessing thats what is causing the issue.. |

I would have said open it in QT and hit export but we both know very well what happens with your pc and qt with mkv files, don't we :P
I would have thought that your file is corrupted if it only extracts 50MB,but ifit plays in mp classic then obviously not. I wonder... perhaps this mkv file is a rip from a disc and contains extras. Perhaps your extracting program is extracting a preview or something and not the main feature? i have seen that MKV files can contain multiple audio and mutiple subtitles files inside a single file with ... only one video track? Anyone out there who can confirm that mkv files can contain only 1 video track? I know when I use ffmpeg it allows me to see what each track in the file is. I take it you have had a look at mediaInfo for this info? Please note, I am talking out of my rear end here. I am guessing ant clutching at straws, hoping that I may hit upon something useful. Don't bet any money on what I just said...

I'm also having a problem. I have managed to successfully create an .mp4 that plays on my pc but when I transfer it over to my ps3 the sound will play fine but there is no video. I have tried doing the quicktime thing but everytime I do that it suddenly stops and says something about an unknown error occured. The file that I am trying to convert is an episode of planet earth which sting2324 uploaded. I know it is not just that file because it also happens with his black hawk down upload too. Could this be because the files are 1080p? As it works perfectly with a 720p video or could it be due to something sting2324 did to the files before uploading them? Any help will be highly appreciated.

if you did the quicktime import and export with passthrough settings then I al left believing only one thing, you used a wrong setting when you converted the file.
Sorry to say, mate... I don't know what software you use, but if it doesn't allow you to save a preset value then just write your settings down. Convert a small file, see if it works on the ps3. If not, change a settting and try again. Till it works. In my experience, it would be the AVC level that was wrongly set. Just to give you a place to start

Join our free community today! Err, which settings do you mean. I have been setting the AVC level to 4. I have been following MohQs guide. |

I haven't followed this guide, yet, so i can't tell you where any problems may occur.
I would have suspected in the 10 minute conversion process because that sounds a bit fishy, but yeah, I'd be guessing. I have seen some software on the net that simply extracts the video, hex changes the header file to SAY the file is AVC 4 but doesn't do anything to it and then simply re-muxes the video and audio and apparently it works... some of the time! Perhaps this is what is happening here and that is why it is all so fast and perhaps you have found one of the files that doesn't work this way... Lots of perhapses here, though. One other thing I might mention is that I did read on another website that aparently these settings work for 720p (and I think 1080x24 or was that x30 ????) but for all other 1080 it doesn't. Not sure. However, I downloaded a video from here that was 1080i (from source I assume cause the video played at 1280x1080) and converted it using my normal method and it played on the ps3, just fine. For interest sake, what video format is your source video encoded in? What is the final size of your video?

The video is a .mkv file. By following the guide I extract the audio and video and get an .ac3 and a .h264, I then convert the .ac3 to an .aac so it will play on the ps3 and change the level thing to 4. Then I use Yamb to merge the two again to get a .mp4.

Join our free community today! Hey guys, Sorry I haven't followed up on this thread. You are not the only one. I just got CARS movie from this site, and it looks like it does not work on the PS3 :(. I thought I fixed it because when I used GotSent for Lion King and some other movie, I got same black screen with audio. When I used this method, it resolved the issue for both movies, so thats why I decided to post it. I don't know what else to suggest, you could try the latest version of Gotsent (2.39B) and see if that works. I will see if I can find anything on a fix for this. |

I reccomend using mkv2vob.
I just uploaded lion king wich i converted with that program. It should be up in the ps3 HD video thread soon. The latest version of mkv2vob automaticly detects if the video is playable on the ps3. And if its not playable, it re-encoded it to mpg4. Quality is almost the same as original. so no worry's on big quality loss And if you convert it using mkv2vob you can keep the 5.1 sound in the movie., you get a .vob file in the end of the proces, and 90% of the vids i used with the program works, i only had problems with south park, cauze the audio was out of sync in the end. And other vids mostly work but you canot seek in the movie sometimes. But that only hapens if its not transcoding the movie. So here's what i suggest. First try using mkv2vob without transcoding, it only takes 15 mins then, try on your ps3 if its not working, use the program again and select the auto transcode option. Yu get a bigger file but then its mostly playable on the ps3. I also converted series like stargate atlantis, i used the dont transcode option, and in the end it worked, but its not possible to seek in the movie. only pauze and 1,5seek. If you accidentily push the seek button you have to watch it all over again with the option play from beginning. if you transcode however the file is fuly playable with no errors, but the file size is very big. Good thing there's no file limit for .vob files on he ps3 so you dont need to split them. hopefully this was helpfull, if you want to know specific things about this program just ask |

I've been using PS3 Video 9 - which is basically just a MP4 converter - all I do is hit convert.. And it's done.
I haven't noticed any changes in quality, but comparing it to the long process on page 1, it seem like I should be. Could someone clarify this for me? Is it safe to assume that I am, in fact, losing video or sound quality? |
