It depends really...
PS3 is good as an entertainment centre whereas xBox is better for online play...
Its up to you which is more suited to your style.
I personally don't favor either one, they can't be properly compared as PS3 has many features an xBox doesnt and vice versa...
For instance, xBox is built by Microsoft, theres your gurantee it will break within the first year...
PS3 as I said has better graphics meaning its better quality, but online isnt too good...at all...
Then theres the controllers: Personally i prefer the PS controllers (having been with PS since PS1 launch) but the xBox controllers are better for some ppl...
My advice is to try out a friends xbox or ps3 and get a feel for each...
Hope this helps...
EDIT: Also, consider the games out for each: Halo and GOW are the main ones for xbox...uncharted 2 among theives, resistance 2 and killzone 2 are the big players for PS3...think before you act, they are VERY different systems...

I just bought a PS3 last week. I don't know why I did it. I always told myself I'd wait until I bought a good size HD television, but on a whim I went ahead anyways (hooking it up to my computer's HD monitor instead.) I am more than satisfied with it.
I played some games on it, pretty impressed by then, not impressed enough to think it was worth the 400 bucks I just spent, but good enough. Then I popped in Uncharted 2 yesterday. This game makes it all worth it. System selling title for sure. I am supremely happy with my PS3 now, and I would gladly praise it to the heavens. I've always been a PC gamer, so to finally have a next gen console is a bit weird and opens up my gaming choices a whole lot more. It's also nice to be able to have the PSN, for free, and not have to subscribe to online play for games. I've never had to do that with my PC games, why should I have to do that with my console.
