I had the same problem long time ago trying to play gears of wars. It is because of microsoft's stupid xbox live crap! This is obviously a console game ported to PC thats why it has saving issues.

Here are the instructions on how to get this game to work.

Download the 5 files. Run the GearsOfWar.exe, and READ what it says. It will ask you for the location for the missing files needed to continue installation, NOT where you want to install the game. So select the directory with the four GearsOfWar.Data.00* files. The files will be extracted and then the installation will run on its own. The installation took me about 20 minutes because the files have to be decompressed twice.

After the game installs, dont play it yet. If it asks you to install the AMD Cpu drivers, do that. Go to the link given by the original poster on the update and run the update. It will update the game to version 1.19 (which is rounded up and considered version 2.0). Then you need to download the Vitality crack and replace the original file where you installed the game.

If you have your firewall running, you will not be able to save your game. If your running ZoneAlarm like me, just set it to game mode (allowing all connections to go through). "OMFG what if its a virus?" Its not. Like i said, MS live is still an offline thing but for the reasons as to how to how it saves your profile it needs access to the Internet. I dont think its connecting to the internet as its more likely the game is hosting its own server and then ur just connecting to yourself. Again this game is ported from a console so the developers just did it that way because it would of been harder to recode the game to save normally. So yes the game can save, just need to allow it to access the internet, dont alt tab out and click allow because there the delay will cause the game to not allow you to save due to the live thing timing out. Also when your done playing, if ur havent disabled your firewall or set it to gaming mode like i said, your game wont save! Don't ask me why, thats just how it is.

"OMFG i still think its a virus, i gots money in the bank and what not!" Well i do too. If you have more than 50 bucks, and dont want to risk being hacked, might i suggest buying the game? ;P

When I run the update patch exe, it brings me to a screen asking if I want to buy the game for $29.99 or if I already have the game. I choose already have the game and then it asks me for a activation code. Anyone know what to do? Thanks!
