Default iATKOS S3 v2.0 - Hackintosh Snow Leopard 10.6.8 for PC

READ PLEASE..

Welcome all..

This is the iATKOS S3 Snow Leopard 10.6.3 Intel Installation DVD readme..

The oscar goes to Apple and OSX86 community..

Master support from my friend Pere..

Thanks to all OSX86 community and all the computer guys that shared their ideas, gave feedback, reported errors and even fixed them sometimes.

And @zapf2000, thank you for all of your supports, cheers to ggrn.de people again..

Special thanks to all of our operators for making our forum a useful place..

And finally thanks to nice EvOSX86 and OSX86.Türk people..

uphuck

Attention:

1- This DVD is designed for Non-Apple x86 Intel CPU computers.

Requirements for OSX86:

Minimum: Compatible motherboard, Intel SSE2 CPU, 512MB RAM, 15GB free space on target partition, compatible VGA card.

Recommended: Intel Core CPU, 1GB RAM, 15GB free space on target partition, Snow Leo compatible nVidia 6600 or newer / ATI X1300 or newer / Intel GMA 950 or X3100 VGA card.

Motherboard (the most important part) should be compatible for booting iATKOS S3 DVD and installing natively.

2- This DVD includes Apple's Mac OS X Leopard 10.6.3 (10D573) installation, some basic drivers and x86 patches.

3- Make sure that the md5 checksum of your iATKOS iso image matches the one posted on our website. Do this MD5 check just before mounting or doing anything with the iso image! Otherwise you may have a faulty DVD image. Use quality media/burner and burn slowly.

4- MAKE SURE YOU TAKE NOTE OF YOUR Hardware IDs, Device IDs and device names before installing this system. This is very important. If you aren't sure what devices/hardware you own nor its IDs, then 3 options:

-Boot iATKOS S3 DVD, run "Hardware Info" from Utilities menu and take notes.
-Fire up a Linux Live CD (ie. Ubuntu Live CD), type "lspci -nn" in terminal and take notes.
-Windowsers, get Everest Ultimate Edition and take note of your hardware.

5- Do a google search or surf to InsanelyMac, Hackint0sh, our forum, related OSX86 sites or wiki to find out if your hardware is supported or not. OSX86 does not support a wide range of hardwares like Linux and Windows. Make sure that it is supported before you install. This is very important because after installation you may ask like "how can I get this hardware to work" and people would simply slap you with "it will never work". This little search will avoid your frustration and anger! Extending your lifespan!

6- If something goes wrong, please don't panic, Scroll down for the Troubleshooting guide. If that fails, take a screenshot (or a picture) of what went wrong and post it in the forums. Make sure you have done the 3 Revival steps and troubleshooting steps before posting in the forum!

7- Do not forget one thing: IF THE INSTALL ENDS WITH SUCCESS, THEN MOST LIKELY IT CAN RUN ON YOUR HARDWARE. This means if you have a major booting error after installation like kernel panic, "still waiting for root device" error, hang on grey apple screen etc. then this is mostly related to your faulty selections during install, read the instructions carefully and do a very basic install until you boot your new system with success.

8- iATKOS wallpapers and icons are made by @denizckosar :)

>>>> Hackintosh Snow Leopard v10.6.8 Update <<<<

The Mac OS X Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard
It includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac.

It also includes the Mac App Store, the best way to discover and buy new apps for your Mac.

WARNING:
PLEASE READ BEFORE UPDATING YOUR H@CKINT0SH

Quote:
Due to the incompatibility of some latest drivers (kexts), i.e. AppleACPIPlatform, IOPCIFamily, AppleHDA, IO80211Family;
a lack of system stability is being the main issue in the 10.6.8 update, which is still unsolved yet

If you're new to the HACKINT0SH (a NEWBIE)
and if you want to update it to the latest build,
then I could suggest you try the 10.6.7 update which is more stable than the 10.6.8

And with the 10.6.7 update, you can prepare yourself by learning all the basic technical skills and knowledge
until you're ready to handle any technical issues when you decide to update your HACKINT0SH to 10.6.8

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!

FYI,

On June 15, 2010, Apple released Mac OS X 10.6.4.

@ slimthugg : welcome to the hackintosh world... congratz

and to update your OSx86, you could follow these steps :

1. Create backups of your old Kernel & Extensions:

2. Ensure to have a Disabler beeing installed - i.e. Disabler.kext or NullCPUPowermanagment.kext - there are even patched Kernels with integrated Disabler, but it doesn't hurt your System to have both.

3. Download and apply the Update & reboot

4. Boot your System using "/bak_kernel -v" on the bootprompt.

5. Delete new Vanilla Kernel and replace it with your legacy kernel:

6. You might want to replace both the the new SleepEnabler and AppleHDA kexts with the old/patched ones if you had trouble after the update.

7. If you had an AMD, you could use the Marvin's AMD Utility to create a CPUID text file using Patcher Package option, for /System/Library folder - exclude any Kernel Extensions & encrypted files (find them in decrypt folder) from the text file - save the text file under a different name & patch CPUIDs by dissabling simulation mode - AMD Utility will succed but crash - Kill it using Apple Menu option and reboot.

8. If any other problems occur try to repair permissions for /S/L/E & /E/E
and delete /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches

Anytime mate :)

AFAIK, there's a project trying to port the Intel wifi drivers/firmware to Mac OS X

But if it still doesn't work :

1. swap the internal wifi card with a Broadcom chipset ($10-$20 USD) --> Warranty Void !

2. or buy a cheap (less than $10 USD) USB wifi-adapter with a Ralink chipset

HOWTO: Update the previous iATKOS S3 to iATKOS S3 version 2

For patching the existing iATKOS_S3.iso :

1. check the md5 of previous version of the iATKOS S3 iso and the ppf patch.

2. You can use "ppf-o-matic" for Windows, "ApplyPPF" terminal program for OS X to patch the iso.

3. Check the patched iso md5.

4. If the md5 matches the version 2 one posted above, then burn it to dvd thats all.
