I realize that many standalone DVD/BluRay players have hardware based video upscalers for standard definition video that work very well. My brother and I watched my Hardwired DVD on his 12 ft home theatre setup, via his Xbox or PS3 (didn't pay attention which) and I was amazed at how crisp the upscaled 480p video looked on that huge screen. Since then I've been trying to find a good software video upscaler. I tried Arcsoft's TotalMedia Theatre. It looked good but requires a video card supporting either Nvidia's CUDA or AMD/ATI's Stream programming API to do the grunt work, which I don't have so the video stuttered like crazy on my laptop. I Googled it and there just aren't any choices out there that I've found except for Cyberlink's PowerDVD. I would like to hear from you guys that have actually tried it to relate your experiences. The two questions I have are:
1. How well does it work?
2. Does it requre CUDA or Stream to work properly, a la Arcsoft?
I haven't tried PowerDVD yet because it is so freakin' bloated with other crap that it's really a last resort. Also, if anyone knows of another alternative, please don't hesitate to post.
Thanks!

This is indeed the best advice! I got nailed with a virus from a download linked from here a few months ago because I was in a big hurry one night. That was just careless and I got caught. It can happen to you too. Since then, I always double check each download from anyone or anywhere with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. This is in addition to my resident anti-virus software. Thanks for posting this message! ![]() --------------------------------------------------- OOPS! This is a response to the Reminder to always scan for viruses! above. Don't know why it showed up here. Last edited by PhoenixBSD; 08-08-11 at 10:22 PM. | ||
