Default Lava Lake

A lava lake glows in Halemaumau vent, with Pu'u O'o vent on the left and the Milky Way shimmering in the sky overhead, on Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

that looks surreal, totally awe inspiring. would love to sit back, have a drink, and take in the view.

why are superb photos like this always tiny images and not something big enough to make a wallpaper out of? im guessing because this is the 'free version'.

Beautiful picture but I'm wondering how many shots are combined to make the one outstanding picture?
The light from the lava lake would kill the chances of getting the milky way with that level of detail.
H3ll, I have a street lamp which puts out less light than that lava and I can't get that level of detail in the MW. And I've taken so many 30 second exposures and tried stacking......

I was telling myself the same thing... I don't know much about photography, but such depth of field, and seeing the stars so well, with a strong light source on the foreground... It just doesn't seem possible.

Still, the result is nice.
