Look for a starting picture. Since you're going to be modifying and posting the picture online, You can find pictures on websites that focus on freely licensed media

Edit your picture using any photo editing software. You can use open source software like GIMP or Paint.NET, or you can use commercial programs like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.
You can change the color, add effects, add text, or "remix" it with another picture.
Just dont use massive renders ( cut out images ) that will hog the whole main image and leave no room for others , 1 edit at a time unless required to complete an edit properly.
Do not completly block another users edit , try to move next to or blend etc etc

Anyone can start a new match as long as you think the current image is full and cannot be edited anymore without destroying the image ( no need to ask just find a good image large enough to add plenty of edits )
I recommend aprox 1024 x 768 or larger
