Yep, most of the folks at work are like that (IT, go figure....) and my sis/brother in law too, they had no clue. I have a 46" 720p/1080i Sammy upstairs in the bedroom and my main baby is my 70" Sony 1080p SXRD in the living room. really dominates but looks sooo good when running decent material. I always tend to prefer progressive over interlaced myself too.

For a few reasons: 1. I rent 2. I got it brand new including the stand for only 2K which is an absolute steal over here (UK) 3. I still find it to be more practical input-wise etc and there was no easy way to disguise a projector or re-arrange the AV kit in this particular living room. I am perfectly happy with it, SXRD image quality still whoops all the flat screen sets I go and check out in my eyes :)

SXRD does put out a very nice image, thats also what the sony 1080p projectors use. 2k pounds is like 3.5-4k US, which is still more than a 1080p projector. Are you running your tv with a 6/8 channel receiver (with video switching) if so then the tv and projector would work the same, just one cable connected to it. And if you spent around 3.5k usd on a tv, then why wouldn't you be running a reciever... But whatever works for your setup....i just like others to be more aware of how good a projector will work for some. You don't have to mount it on your ceiling, it can be on a cabinet or the floor. And if you have video-switching, then it will work the same as a tv, just one hdmi/component cable to it. There are so many myths about projectors....see projectorcentral*com or projectorreviews*com for more info, and consider switching over. My rant for the day I guess. lol.

Thanks but I know plenty about projectors :), it's simply that it will not work in our particular living room full stop. Add to that the fact that my other half and our housemate who use down there the most virtually never use the reciever and insist on having tv speakers makes it a pain. I have no issues with a fp as I only watch movies down there. I do have a 7.1 reciever with HDMI switching but am still a purist and prefer to route signals directly where possible, be they lossless or not, old habits and all that lol

projectors are great, but they are not ideal for lots of situations or rooms, etc. Just like you're saying. as long as you love the setup you have...whatever makes you happy. But other ppl should consider projectors before they go buy a tv for a home theatre setup. And to clarify when I said go to those sites for more info, I meant other people reading this thread as you have already stated it won't work for you, plus you already spent money. I think i should go back to posting on avsforum, lol

When I got home I bought a Sony Vio 15" Dual Core 2 2.33Mhz with 4 GB Ram and 250GB HDD 256MB Video for $499.00 at BestBuy. They wanted $800 in Dublin plus exchange would make it about $1400... as I said WTF. As for projector, I just sold mine last week. I had a ViewSonic 1080P and a 8ft diamond coated screen. The room I had it setup in is only 12ft X 20ft. When I watched Black Hawk Down in HD I threw up. Needless to say I didn't use it for over a year and then a client asked me to setup a conference room in NY, guess what I sold them.

Sharp, get the Apple TV and you really don't need to know anything with XBMC. A little self building USB boot disk, stick it in the back of the Apple TV, wait, reboot... DONE. Plays MKV and DIVX HD.

I hear that, went to Dublin in June... you guys get screwed. I didn't want to bring my MacBook Pro because with all my upgrades it's about a $4000 laptop, so I figured I would just pick up a cheap Sony or something when I got there... WTF, there was nothing cheap. Anything technology based over there was twice the price we pay in the states and with the exchange rate I would be paying almost 4 times the price that it is here. Hey there. I succesfully managed to convert a MKV file to MP4 (actually M4V). Is there a way to add subtitles to it? I have the correct .SRT files but it is not possible to add them via HB.. I noticed the Audio & Subtitles tab, but that only 'looks' into the file itself and I have a sub file outside the MKV. Any help is appriciated.

Would anyone mind terribly posing the SVN built Handbrake to another site? Rapidshare is blocked where I live.
